Accor Expands MGallery in Chengdu
Accor has inaugurated the Financial City Chengdu – MGallery Collection in Sichuan. This new property commenced operations on 31 August 2026. It represents a strategic expansion for Accor's premium MGallery brand within Western China. The hotel is situated in Chengdu Financial City, a key urban development area.
This opening marks the third MGallery Collection property in the region, demonstrating Accor's growing presence. Accor stated this initiative forms part of its efforts to increase the brand's footprint in vital cities across Western China. The MGallery Collection currently operates ten hotels throughout China.
Accor has set a target to double its overall presence in Greater China by 2030, a goal this new Chengdu property directly supports. The group positions the MGallery brand to offer unique design and local cultural storytelling. This expansion underscores Accor's commitment to the dynamic Chinese hospitality market, particularly within its rapidly developing western provinces.
Hotel Amenities and Design
The new Financial City Chengdu – MGallery Collection features 155 guestrooms and suites. These accommodations are designed to cater to both corporate and leisure guests visiting Chengdu's financial district. The hotel offers diverse dining choices, including the Lychee Restaurant, which serves both regional Chinese and international cuisine.
For more relaxed settings, the Lychee Bar provides afternoon tea options and an array of evening cocktails. Guests can also access a rooftop Sky Garden, which offers additional social and dining spaces with city views. For business and events, the property includes approximately 480 square metres of multi-purpose function space.
Leisure facilities comprise a modern fitness centre. This centre is equipped with panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows that lead directly to an outdoor terrace, enhancing the guest experience.
Strategic Vision and Sustainability
Accor confirmed that the Financial City Chengdu – MGallery Collection integrates eco-conscious practices into its daily operations. These efforts align with the hospitality group's broader global sustainability commitments. Kent Zhu, Accor Greater China CEO, commented on the strategic importance of Chengdu for the brand.
He highlighted the city's "rich cultural heritage and dynamic energy." Zhu described Chengdu as "a vital anchor" in Accor's development strategy for Western China. He further emphasised the region's high potential, noting that Accor has spent years cultivating "deep partnerships and trusted brand equity" there.
Zhu also pointed to the ongoing growth within Western China's premium and luxury hospitality sector. He stated that Accor remains committed to delivering "innovative, culturally rich experiences" that resonate with contemporary travellers' evolving desires.
Market Implications
This expansion demonstrates Accor's continued focus on China's rapidly evolving travel market. The opening of a premium brand in Chengdu reinforces the trend of international operators targeting key regional cities beyond traditional hubs. For travellers, this means an increase in diverse accommodation choices.
These options increasingly blend global service standards with distinct local cultural elements. The move also signals Accor's confidence in Western China's sustained economic and tourism growth prospects. Industry competitors will closely observe Accor's progress towards its goal of doubling the MGallery footprint in Greater China by 2030.
This aggressive expansion strategy could influence future investment decisions and development plans across the region's hospitality sector. Earlier this month, Accor also launched its Pullman brand in Sri Lanka, indicating broader regional expansion efforts.
