Philippines Earns Top Honours at 2026 Asia Travel Awards
The nation was named Asia’s Leading Dive Destination for the eighth consecutive year, among six categories won at the World Travel Awards ceremony in September.

Philippines Recognised in Six Categories
The Philippines secured six accolades at the 2026 World Travel Awards (WTA) Asia, Oceania and Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony, which took place on September 27 at CROSSROADS Maldives. The country's Department of Tourism announced on October 12 that the nation was once again recognised for its marine tourism resources and overall competitiveness as a resort destination.
This marks a continued strong performance for the archipelago in the annual awards programme, affirming its appeal to global travellers and industry professionals alike.
Repeat Wins for Dive and Beach Destinations
For the eighth consecutive year, the Philippines was named Asia’s Leading Dive Destination. The country also received the title of Asia’s Leading Beach Destination for the ninth time overall, and Asia’s Leading Island Destination for the third year in a row.
These awards highlight the Philippines' consistent appeal in key tourism segments, particularly for travellers seeking aquatic activities and coastal retreats across the region. The sustained recognition reinforces the nation's reputation as a premier destination for nature-based tourism.
Boracay and San Fernando Also Honoured
Beyond national recognition, specific Philippine destinations and entities were also celebrated at the 2026 WTA. Boracay, a prominent resort location, earned Asia’s Leading Luxury Island Destination for the third consecutive year.
The Philippines’ Department of Tourism was honoured as Asia’s Leading Tourist Board for the fourth time overall, a significant achievement for its promotional efforts. Additionally, the City of San Fernando in Pampanga achieved a first for the country, being named Asia’s Leading Cultural City Destination.
Plans for Enhanced Dive Tourism in 2027
Building on these achievements, Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay stated the Department's aim to further develop diving as one of the Philippines’ key tourism products in 2027. Plans include improving access to major dive destinations and streamlining transportation and logistics.
The Department will also intensify promotional efforts to highlight the country’s outstanding marine and nature-based tourism assets. Furthermore, investment in training for tourism industry workers at diving and beach locations, alongside enhanced safety and security measures for both domestic and international travellers, remains a priority.
The objective is to create a more convenient environment for water activities through efficient services and improved connectivity between destinations.
