Allianz Partners Report: AI Now Mainstream for US Travel Planning; Major Hotel Chains Deploy Tools
A recent Allianz Partners study reveals that artificial intelligence has become a common instrument for travel planning among U.S. consumers. This shift is prompting hotel groups like IHG, Hilton, Wyndham, and Marriott to introduce their own AI-powered solutions.

AI Adoption Surges Among US Travellers
Global travel insurance provider Allianz Partners reported on July 23, 2026, that artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly a mainstream instrument for planning travel. A survey conducted between March 20 and April 14, 2026, found that 37% of American travellers intending to travel this summer utilise AI for vacation arrangements. These travellers anticipate swift, intuitive, and mobile-first interactions throughout their trips, according to the Allianz Global Travel Confidence Index, which included polling by Ipsos. The report highlights a broader trend of technology transforming how individuals research, plan, and manage their travel activities.
Evolving Expectations for Digital Travel Services
The applications of AI in travel planning vary, encompassing recommendations for destinations, restaurants, and activities, alongside itinerary creation, budget management, and general travel research. Emily Hartman, general manager at Allianz Partners, stated that the industry is adapting to meet evolving expectations, from AI-assisted trip planning to real-time travel support. The survey also showed that among those purchasing travel insurance, nearly two-thirds (64%) expect or value 24/7 access to customer support and emergency assistance through mobile applications, indicating a demand for enhanced digital services.
Hotel Groups Launch AI-Powered Solutions
In response to this consumer trend, major hospitality groups have begun deploying their own AI tools. IHG Hotels & Resorts launched a ChatGPT application in June, while Hilton commenced piloting a new generative AI-powered digital concierge earlier this year. Wyndham Hotels & Resorts also introduced a native ChatGPT application to aid travellers with hotel searches and bookings. Last month, Marriott International debuted its AI-powered conversational search tool, 'Ask Bonvoy', further demonstrating the industry's move to integrate AI into guest services and booking processes.
Implications for Industry and Travellers
This widespread adoption of AI by travellers means that hospitality businesses must strategically invest in generative AI to ensure visibility and relevance in consumer travel research. As travellers increasingly turn to AI for trip planning, hotels need to optimise their digital presence within these new search paradigms. The rising customer expectations for convenience and personalisation, particularly for services like travel protection and booking, compel the industry to develop more sophisticated, app-driven digital solutions to maintain guest satisfaction and foster loyalty.
