Sun PhuQuoc Airways to launch daily Bangkok-Phu Quoc flights from August 2026
Sun PhuQuoc Airways will introduce a new daily direct air service connecting Bangkok with Phu Quoc, Viet Nam, starting 8 August 2026. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) states this route aims to increase travel options and strengthen tourism links between the two countries.
New Route Commences in August
Sun PhuQuoc Airways will commence daily direct flights between Bangkok and Phu Quoc, Viet Nam, from 8 August 2026. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) confirmed this development on 20 July 2026, following a launch event in Bangkok on 15 July 2026. The service, with a flight duration of approximately one hour and 20 minutes, aims to broaden travel access between Thailand and Viet Nam. H.E. Mr. Pham Viet Hung, Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam to Thailand, attended the launch, alongside Miss Pattaraanong Na Chiangmai, TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing – Asia and South Pacific. Airline's Regional Expansion
Sun PhuQuoc Airways, a division of Sun Group, began commercial flights in November 2025, establishing its network around Phu Quoc, an island destination off Viet Nam’s southern coast. The airline operates a hub-and-spoke system, linking Phu Quoc with various domestic and international locations using an expanding fleet of Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft. The new Bangkok route forms part of the carrier’s continued expansion across Asia. This addition enhances the existing air network that connects six Vietnamese cities with Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket. (TAT Newsroom)
Impact on Tourism and Traveller Choice
The new air service provides travellers with additional choice and flexibility for trips between Thailand and Viet Nam. Miss Pattaraanong Na Chiangmai noted that TAT welcomes new air services that broaden access to Thailand and strengthen regional two-way tourism. Viet Nam remains a significant short-haul market for Thailand; from January to early July 2026, Thailand recorded over 300,000 Vietnamese arrivals. Projections from TAT Newsroom indicate this figure will reach 689,000 by the close of 2026.
