Vox Integrates Bluetooth for Guided Tours, Allowing Personal Earbuds and Hearing Aids

Vox, a major provider of tour-guiding technology, will introduce Bluetooth connectivity across its radio systems from September 2026. This upgrade enables travellers to use their own wireless earbuds or Bluetooth-enabled hearing aids during guided tours, museums, and cruise excursions, addressing a long-standing request for personal audio devices.

Bluetooth Connectivity for Guided Tours

Vox, a leading supplier of professional tour-guiding technology, plans to integrate Bluetooth compatibility into all its tour radios starting September 2026. This development, reported by eTurboNews on 23 July 2026, will allow individuals on guided tours to connect their personal wireless earbuds or Bluetooth-enabled hearing aids directly to the Vox BT system. The move aims to modernise the audio delivery for city walks, museum visits, and shore excursions, moving away from the traditional wired headsets that have been standard for decades. This change responds to frequent requests from travellers for the option to use their own listening devices.

Enhanced Accessibility and User Comfort

The introduction of Vox BT significantly improves accessibility, particularly for travellers with hearing loss. Instead of wearing bulky headphones over hearing aids, individuals can receive commentary directly into their Bluetooth-compatible devices, improving clarity in noisy environments. Fabio Primerano, CEO of Vox, noted that the system feels natural for guests, allowing for a more personalised listening setting where some use earbuds and others use hearing aids simultaneously. Vox currently supports 30 million travellers annually through 5,600 travel and tourism partners in over 150 countries, making this an impactful upgrade across a wide network, according to eTurboNews.

Operational Efficiencies and Broader Strategy

This shift aligns with a growing preference for 'bring your own device' in travel, reducing the need for tour operators to manage and sanitise numerous pieces of equipment. While Vox maintains an equipment collection and recycling programme for its reusable headsets, allowing guests to use personal items lessens the logistical burden of distributing, collecting, and transporting accessories after each tour. For large-scale operations, such as cruise excursions and major sightseeing programmes, these efficiencies can lead to notable savings. The Vox BT launch follows the company's introduction of Vox Aura, an AI-powered transmitter offering live multilingual interpretation and pre-loaded content for areas with limited internet access.

Implications for Travellers and Industry

For travellers, the ability to use personal audio devices means greater comfort and a more familiar listening method during guided tours from September 2026. This particularly benefits those with hearing aids, who gain direct, clear audio without additional gear. For the travel industry, tour operators stand to gain from reduced equipment handling and cleaning costs, alongside improved customer satisfaction. This development demonstrates a move towards more inclusive and personalised tour delivery, where technology adapts to individual guest needs rather than requiring guests to adapt to standard equipment. Industry stakeholders will observe how this influences customer uptake and operational models globally.
