Third Quarter Benefits Nearing Expiry

Cardholders with select American Express and Chase credit cards have until September 30, 2026, to maximise their third-quarter benefits before these perks reset. Quarterly statement credits and bonus spending categories are designed to offer value over a three-month period, requiring cardholders to track their usage to ensure they receive the full advantage.

With the end of the third quarter rapidly approaching, individuals are advised to review their remaining benefits, particularly those linked to travel and lifestyle expenditures, to avoid forfeiture as the new quarter begins in October.

American Express Business and Consumer Card Credits

American Express provides several quarterly statement credits across its premium card portfolio. For the Business Platinum Card from American Express, cardholders can claim up to a US$90 statement credit for eligible Indeed purchases in the United States, alongside up to a US$50 statement credit for eligible Hilton purchases, both per quarter.

These credits contribute towards offsetting the card's annual fee. The American Express Platinum Card also features quarterly benefits, including up to a US$100 statement credit for Resy dining experiences in the US and up to a US$75 statement credit for Lululemon purchases made in US stores or online. Enrolment is required for certain benefits across these cards.

Hilton Co-Branded Card Offers

Several Hilton Honors American Express co-branded cards also offer quarterly statement credits that expire at the end of September. The Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card provides up to a US$50 flight statement credit each quarter, applicable to flights paid directly with an airline or via AmexTravel.com.

For business travellers, The Hilton Honors American Express Business Card offers up to a US$60 Hilton statement credit per quarter on purchases charged directly to a Hilton portfolio property. Similarly, the Hilton Honors American Express Surpass Card provides up to a US$50 Hilton statement credit quarterly for eligible purchases made directly with Hilton properties. These credits can be used for bookings and incidental charges, such as dining and spa services.

Chase Rotating Bonus Categories

Chase cardholders with the Chase Freedom Flex or the legacy Chase Freedom card also face a September 30 deadline for their third-quarter bonus categories. From July 1 through September 30, 2026, these cards offer up to 5% cash back on spending in specific categories.

These include purchases at gas stations, electric vehicle charging services, public transit, select live entertainment venues, and donations made to United Way. Cardholders must ensure they have activated these bonus categories and utilised them within the specified timeframe to earn the enhanced rewards.

Asian Travellers and Industry Implications

While these specific credit card benefits are primarily tailored for the US market, the principle of maximising time-sensitive loyalty programmes holds relevance for Asian travellers and the broader travel industry in Asia.

Many Asian travellers visiting the United States may hold these global American Express cards, allowing them to utilise these credits for hotel stays or other eligible purchases, thereby reducing their overall travel expenditure.

For financial institutions and travel partners across Asia, these programmes illustrate the competitive landscape of customer retention through strategic rewards. Observing such initiatives helps Asian providers understand global trends in payment and loyalty, potentially influencing the design of similar schemes aimed at enhancing travel value for their own cardholders.
