Avianca establishes permanent Miami-Cali air link from December 2026
The Colombian carrier will operate year-round non-stop service between Miami and Cali from December 17, 2026, with daily flights during the peak travel season.

Miami-Cali route transitions to year-round service
Avianca has announced that its non-stop connection between Miami, USA, and Cali, Colombia, will transition from a seasonal offering to a permanent, year-round service. The new schedule commences on December 17, 2026, establishing a consistent air bridge between Miami International Airport and Cali's Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport.
This strategic move aims to bolster Avianca’s network between the United States and Colombia, providing expanded travel options for thousands of passengers, according to Rolando Damas, Avianca’s director of sales for North America.
Daily flights for peak season, then four times weekly
Initially, the route will operate daily flights, aligning with the busy peak travel period from December 17, 2026, through January 31, 2027. Following this high-demand season, the frequency will adjust to four times per week, beginning February 1, 2027.
These regular services will be available on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, ensuring ongoing connectivity for travellers outside the primary holiday rush. Avianca stated that this permanent addition reinforces its presence in key markets and supports the growth of tourism, business, and regional development.
Business Class amenities and booking details
Passengers on the newly permanent Miami-Cali route will also benefit from Avianca’s Business Class Americas product. This premium offering includes several enhanced benefits from the outset of the trip, such as priority services at the airport, access to Avianca and Star Alliance lounges where available, an increased baggage allowance, and Lifemiles accrual.
Onboard, travellers can expect comfortable seating in the front rows of the aircraft and a service tailored to the flight’s duration, providing a more comfortable and personalised trip. Tickets for this route are now available for purchase through avianca.com, the Avianca mobile application, physical sales locations, travel agencies, and the airline’s Contact Center.
Global trend in route optimisation for Asian carriers
While this service primarily impacts the Americas, the decision by Avianca to convert a seasonal route into a permanent fixture reflects a broader global trend in airline network optimisation. Asian carriers, facing similar fluctuations in demand, frequently analyse seasonal performance to determine the viability of year-round operations.
For example, airlines like Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines meticulously evaluate holiday period surges against consistent business and leisure traffic to establish stable, long-term routes.
This strategic shift by Avianca mirrors efforts by Asian operators to build network resilience and cater to sustained passenger demand, moving beyond short-term seasonal peaks to ensure year-round market presence.
