Bengaluru's Onto Launches Hotel Price Drop Refund Service
The traveltech startup secured $1 million in pre-seed funding, co-led by Singapore-based White Venture Capital, to power its expansion and AI platform development.

Onto Secures Funding for Traveltech Launch
Bengaluru-based travel technology startup Onto commenced operations after successfully closing a $1 million (approximately Rs 9.5 crore) pre-seed funding round. The investment was spearheaded by Stargazer Fund, with Singapore-based White Venture Capital acting as co-lead.
Founded by former Groww professionals Jagdeep Singh and Shubham Goyal, Onto stated that the capital will be directed towards scaling its operations, enhancing its core technology infrastructure, and developing new products. The company aims to build an artificial intelligence-powered travel platform, focusing initially on hotel bookings before expanding its scope.
The funding supports the company's ambition to innovate in the post-booking customer support space, a segment it identifies as underserved within the travel industry.
Price Drop Refund Service Detailed
Onto's inaugural offering, named Price Drop Refund, is designed to allow travellers to benefit from hotel rate reductions after their initial reservation. The service continuously monitors hotel prices post-booking and automatically facilitates a refund of the difference if an identical, eligible reservation becomes available at a lower cost.
Onto specifies that its system searches for cheaper rates for the same hotel, room type, and travel dates. Eligibility for refunds is contingent on the availability of a suitable lower-priced room and the booking's cancellation terms, with non-refundable reservations being excluded from price tracking.
The platform also extends support to qualifying hotel bookings made via other online travel agencies, allowing users to upload existing confirmations for monitoring. Refunds are processed back to the original payment method, and customers receive updates on price changes and refunds through WhatsApp and in-app notifications.
Technology and Future Growth Plans
Before its official launch, Onto reported over 2,000 app downloads, with early data indicating price fluctuations across nearly all hotel bookings analysed, though the total number of reservations reviewed was not disclosed.
Co-founder Jagdeep Singh noted the company's objective to fill a gap in customer care after travel bookings are finalised, aiming to provide ongoing support beyond the transaction. Shubham Goyal, also a co-founder, highlighted the technological complexity involved in monitoring hotel reservations across diverse platforms.
Onto has integrated with various hotel suppliers to facilitate accommodation bookings across India and international destinations.
The startup intends to move beyond hotel-specific services, with plans to introduce AI-driven features that will offer personalised travel recommendations based on user preferences and past travel patterns, complete with explanations for suggested options.
Implications for Asian Travellers and Industry
The launch of Onto's Price Drop Refund service, originating from Bengaluru with investment from Singapore, signals a growing focus on post-booking value for Asian travellers. In a region where online travel booking is widespread and dynamic pricing common, this service could empower consumers to secure better deals even after committing to a reservation.
For the broader Asian travel industry, Onto's model may prompt existing online travel agencies and hotel chains to reassess their own post-booking customer service and pricing strategies.
The emphasis on AI-powered personalisation and support beyond the initial transaction could drive innovation, potentially leading to more competitive offerings and enhanced traveller trust across markets like India, Southeast Asia, and beyond. Operators in these markets may observe how such services affect consumer loyalty and booking behaviour in the coming quarters.
