Da Nang Launches Premium Mountain Tea Tour After Bill Gates Visit
Da Nang’s Son Tra Peninsula management has introduced a new high-end tea-tasting tour on Ban Co Peak. This initiative, reported by VnExpress International – Travel, follows a visit by U.S. tech billionaire Bill Gates in March 2024. The tour targets affluent travellers seeking a refined cultural activity.

New Offering Targets High-Spending Travellers
Da Nang’s Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourism Beaches management launched a new tea-tasting tour on July 25. The offering operates on Ban Co Peak. This initiative aims to attract high-spending travellers to the region. The launch follows a visit by Bill Gates, who participated in a tea session in March 2024. VnExpress International – Travel reported on this development. The tour represents a strategic move to diversify Da Nang’s tourism appeal.
Refined Tea Session Details Revealed
The new tour is designed as a two-hour activity. It commences with a tea-opening ceremony. This is followed by a traditional tea brewing performance. Guests then taste Vietnamese tea while surrounded by mountain scenery. The session takes place at the highest point of Ban Co Peak. This location is near the well-known chess-playing deity statue. To ensure privacy, each tour accommodates a maximum of 10 guests. This approach maintains a premium standard for all participants.
Fixed Schedules and Trial Period
The tour operates with two fixed daily time slots. These schedules prevent interference with general visitors to the peak. The sunrise session starts at 5:00 a.m. The sunset session begins at 6:00 p.m. from March to September. During October to February, the sunset session moves to 5:00 p.m. This new offering will undergo a two-year trial period. Following this evaluation, the final schedules will be determined. Ban Co Peak is located 700 metres above sea level. It offers expansive views of the surrounding ocean and Da Nang City.
Implications for Regional Tourism
This premium tea tour demonstrates Da Nang’s commitment to attracting affluent visitors. The inspiration from Bill Gates’s visit highlights the influence of high-profile figures on destination marketing. A two-year trial period allows local authorities to assess market demand. It also helps in refining the operational aspects of the tour. Other destinations in Asia may observe this model. It shows how unique, high-value cultural activities can elevate a city’s tourism profile. The success of this trial could encourage similar bespoke offerings across the region.
