EgyptAir Targets Singapore, Sydney with Early 2027 Flights
Egypt's national carrier aims to launch direct Cairo–Singapore flights from early 2027, with a proposed extension to Sydney, marking its inaugural service to Australia.

EgyptAir Expands Asia-Pacific Network
EgyptAir announced plans to launch direct flights between Cairo and Singapore from early 2027, subject to regulatory approval. The carrier also proposes extending this service to Sydney, which would mark its first-ever route to Australia.
This initiative aims to establish a new air link between Egypt, a key aviation hub in Southeast Asia, and Australia, significantly broadening EgyptAir's global reach. The proposed Cairo–Singapore–Sydney service would introduce new options for travellers connecting between North Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Oceania.
Broader 2027 Expansion Plans
Beyond its Asia-Pacific ambitions, EgyptAir is also developing several other new routes for 2027. The airline is exploring a potential seasonal service between Cairo and Marseille for summer 2027.
Additionally, EgyptAir is discussing the introduction of flights to London Stansted, which would complement its existing operations at London Heathrow and provide a second gateway into the UK capital. These plans form part of a wider network expansion strategy, building on the airline's busy schedule of new route introductions throughout 2026.
Recent Network Additions in 2026
EgyptAir has already significantly expanded its network in 2026. The airline launched direct Cairo–Zanzibar flights twice weekly on September 4th. Later this year, it will introduce four weekly Cairo–Birmingham services from October 25th and four weekly Cairo–Stockholm flights from December 18th, operated by an Airbus A321neo.
Earlier in 2026, EgyptAir resumed its Cairo–Los Angeles service in May, operating three times weekly, and commenced direct Cairo–Chicago flights in June, also three times weekly. Direct Cairo–Venice flights began twice weekly in June, increasing to three times weekly for the winter season.
Fleet Growth Supports Expansion
To support its growing network, EgyptAir is augmenting its long-haul fleet with Airbus A350-900 aircraft. These wide-body jets are already deployed on the new US routes to Los Angeles and Chicago and are expected to play a crucial role in the proposed Asia-Pacific expansion.
For shorter international sectors, the airline is incorporating Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, providing additional capacity and operational flexibility. This strategic fleet enhancement enables EgyptAir to pursue its ambitious growth strategy across multiple continents.
Implications for Asian Travellers and Operators
The proposed Cairo–Singapore–Sydney service from early 2027 offers new direct connectivity for travellers in Southeast Asia and Australia, providing an alternative to existing Middle Eastern or European transit points.
For Singapore, a major regional aviation hub, the new EgyptAir service could enhance its status as a gateway for African and Middle Eastern traffic into the Asia-Pacific region.
Airlines currently operating routes between Southeast Asia, Australia, and the Middle East may face increased competition on these corridors once EgyptAir's new services commence, prompting potential adjustments in scheduling or pricing from early 2027.
