Vietnam Airlines Boosts Indochina Tourism with Lao PDR, Cambodia Pacts
The agreements, signed on October 8-9, 2026, aim to attract more international visitors to Vietnam, Lao PDR, and Cambodia through combined travel programmes, building on a 14.5% increase in Vietnamese arrivals this year.

Partnerships for Regional Growth
Vietnam Airlines signed two new agreements on October 8-9, 2026, to strengthen cross-border tourism within Indochina. These pacts were established during business forums held in conjunction with an official visit by Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and a Vietnamese delegation to Lao PDR and Cambodia.
The first agreement is with the Lao Association of Travel Agents (LATA), while the second is with the Cambodia Airport Investment Corporation (CAIC), the developer of Techo International Airport.
According to Vietnam Airlines Deputy General Director Dinh Van Tuan, these partnerships enhance the airline's role in connecting Vietnam and other Indochina destinations with global markets, aiming to attract more international tourists, expand routes, and contribute to the sustainable development of regional tourism, as stated by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Viet Nam.
Surging Visitor Numbers and Network
Vietnam reported welcoming nearly 17.7 million international visitors in the first nine months of 2026, marking a 14.5% increase compared to the same period last year. Air travel accounted for a significant portion, with approximately 14.7 million visitors arriving by plane, representing 83.2% of the total, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Viet Nam.
China and South Korea remain key source markets for Vietnam, alongside travellers from Japan, Australia, the United States, and Europe. Vietnam Airlines currently operates a substantial network within the region, offering 12 weekly flights across two routes connecting Viet Nam with Vientiane and Luang Prabang.
Additionally, the airline maintains 25 weekly flights on four routes between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Cambodia's Siem Reap and Phnom Penh.
Deepening Collaboration Details
The agreement with LATA focuses on joint development and promotion of tourism programmes linking Viet Nam and Lao PDR. This collaboration involves connecting member travel businesses to cultivate new customer sources and broaden distribution channels, as reported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Viet Nam.
The pact with CAIC, the entity behind Techo International Airport, specifically addresses the study of maintaining and increasing flight frequencies between this airport and Vietnam's major hubs, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. It also includes an assessment of the feasibility of establishing new routes.
Beyond route development, Vietnam Airlines and CAIC will cooperate on trade promotion, service advertising, and the exchange of expertise in aviation operations, safety standards, service quality, and digital transformation.
Boosting Multi-Destination Travel
These strategic partnerships are designed to encourage international travellers to undertake multi-destination trips within Indochina, leveraging Vietnam as a primary entry point.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Viet Nam, notes that Vietnam Airlines' extensive network, which connects Viet Nam with Asia, Europe, Australia, and the Americas, allows it to bring passengers to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City before they continue to Lao PDR or Cambodia.
In the first nine months of 2026, Vietnam Airlines transported approximately 103,500 passengers on its Viet Nam–Lao PDR routes and 262,400 passengers on its Viet Nam–Cambodia routes.
The airline anticipates these collaborations will expand market opportunities for tourism businesses and enhance the operational efficiency of the flight network across the three nations, particularly for long-haul visitors seeking diverse regional activities.
