Digital Points Redemption Introduced

Hilton launched its new “Pay with Points” programme on 21 October 2026, allowing Hilton Honors loyalty members to apply their accumulated points directly towards eligible hotel charges during the digital checkout process. This new functionality, which Hilton states is a first for a major hotel brand, is integrated into the Hilton Honors app.

Members with Silver, Gold, Diamond, or Diamond Reserve status can access this benefit, enabling them to review their folio and redeem points without requiring assistance from the front desk. This initiative aims to streamline the departure experience by offering greater flexibility in how points are utilised.

Responding to Member Feedback

The introduction of “Pay with Points” directly responds to expressed desires from Hilton Honors members for more flexible redemption options. According to internal research conducted by Hilton, 70 per cent of its members indicated interest in using their points for on-property purchases.

Furthermore, approximately half of the surveyed members reported that such a capability would increase their likelihood of choosing or booking with Hilton.

Brad Anderson, vice president of Hilton Honors, affirmed that the programme was developed to provide members with additional digitally-enabled tools, thereby reducing travel friction and enhancing the choice and control they value.

Phased Rollout Schedule

The new digital redemption feature is currently available at 150 hotels across the United States. Hilton plans a rapid expansion, expecting the programme to be accessible at 800 properties by the end of 2026. A broader rollout is anticipated for early 2027, at which point “Pay with Points” is projected to be available at over 6,000 hotels throughout the US and Canada.

This programme is powered by Hilton’s customised technology platform, and the company notes it builds upon existing digital tools such as Digital Check In, Digital Key, and Choose Your Room, reflecting a strategy to deliver differentiated digital experiences at scale.

Implications for Global Travellers and Industry

With Hilton Honors serving more than 260 million members across 144 countries and territories worldwide, the “Pay with Points” programme, while initially regional, establishes a significant benchmark for loyalty innovation.

Asian travellers who are Hilton Honors members may anticipate the eventual expansion of these digital redemption capabilities to properties within the Asia-Pacific region, offering similar convenience in managing their hotel bills.

For hotel operators and groups across Asia, this move by a major global competitor shows a clear direction towards enhanced digital integration within loyalty schemes, potentially driving a re-evaluation of their own offerings to meet evolving guest expectations for flexibility and value in point redemption.
