Hilton Unveils Digital Points Redemption for Hotel Charges
The new 'Pay with Points' feature allows Silver, Gold, and Diamond tier Hilton Honours members to settle eligible on-property expenses through the mobile app, starting with 150 US hotels.

Digital Redemption for On-Property Charges
Hilton has recently introduced 'Pay with Points', an innovative feature enabling Hilton Honours loyalty members to utilise their accumulated points for eligible expenses during the digital checkout process.
This new functionality, integrated within the Hilton Honours mobile application, marks a significant step, as Hilton states it is the first major hotel brand to provide an in-app points settlement option that bypasses the need for guests to visit the front desk. The initial rollout of this service covers 150 participating properties across the United States. This development aims to provide greater flexibility and control for guests managing their loyalty rewards.
How Pay with Points Functions
The 'Pay with Points' option is currently available to Hilton Honours members holding Silver, Gold, Diamond, or Diamond Reserve tier status at selected US hotels.
During the mobile checkout workflow, eligible guests can review a detailed breakdown of their folio, examine the various point-redemption tiers available, and then directly apply their points balance towards qualifying charges. Hilton noted that the specific availability, terms, and redemption options may vary by location.
This streamlined process is designed to reduce friction in travel by offering a more convenient method for guests to settle their on-property bills using their loyalty currency.
Member Preference Drives Expansion Plans
Hilton introduced this capability following extensive internal research into member preferences. Survey data from the operator indicated that 70% of polled Hilton Honours members expressed a desire to use loyalty points for settling on-property charges.
Furthermore, approximately 50% of respondents stated that such a feature would make them more likely to book or stay with the brand. Brad Anderson, Hilton Honours Program vice-president, stated that members had requested greater flexibility in using their points, which could already be redeemed for free night stays or unique experiences globally.
Hilton plans to expand the offering to over 800 hotels by the end of 2026, with a broader rollout to more than 6,000 participating properties in the US and Canada scheduled for early 2027.
Global Hospitality Trends and Asian Markets
While the initial deployment of Hilton’s 'Pay with Points' is focused on the North American market, this innovation sets a precedent for digital loyalty redemption in the global hospitality sector. The move reflects a broader industry trend towards enhancing customer convenience through technology, particularly in self-service options.
Asian hotel groups and loyalty programmes may observe the success of this model as they consider their own digital transformation strategies. For Asian travellers, this feature could eventually become available at Hilton properties in Asia, offering a similar flexible payment mechanism.
It could also influence other international and regional chains operating in Asia to develop comparable in-app points settlement processes, potentially reshaping how loyalty points are valued and used across the continent in the coming years.
