IHCL Expands Tamil Nadu Footprint with Taj Rameswaram

Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) recently announced an agreement to develop the 300-key Taj Rameswaram hotel in Tamil Nadu. This greenfield project, spanning 70 acres, will be realised through a partnership with Setupuram Hotels & Resorts Private Limited.

The new property will significantly expand IHCL's presence in the state, bringing its total portfolio in Tamil Nadu to 35 properties. Of these, 16 are currently under various stages of development, showing a strong focus on regional growth. The Taj Rameswaram is expected to cater to a diverse range of travellers visiting this prominent spiritual destination.

Comprehensive Facilities for Guests and Events

Upon completion, the Taj Rameswaram is planned to offer an extensive array of amenities designed for both leisure and business travellers. Dining options will include two speciality restaurants, a bar lounge, and a dedicated pool bar.

For corporate and social gatherings, the hotel will feature comprehensive meeting and event venues, including banquet facilities, convention areas, and multiple meeting rooms.

Guests seeking relaxation and recreation will have access to a swimming pool, a modern fitness centre, a dedicated wellness venue, and a spa equipped with several treatment rooms, ensuring a complete hospitality offering.

Strategic Focus on Spiritual and MICE Tourism

Suma Venkatesh, IHCL's executive vice-president for real estate and development, noted Rameswaram's importance as one of India's most significant spiritual destinations, drawing visitors from across the country and internationally.

Venkatesh emphasised the substantial potential for religious, spiritual, leisure, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism in the area, attributing this to ongoing improvements in infrastructure and connectivity.

IHCL expressed its pleasure in collaborating with Setupuram Hotels & Resorts Private Limited on this project, aiming to introduce the distinctive Taj brand experience to Rameswaram.

Boosting Tamil Nadu's Hospitality Capacity

Rajesh Jograj Bafna, director of Setupuram Hotels & Resorts, conveyed the company's delight in partnering with IHCL to establish the Taj brand in Rameswaram. He stated that this collaboration marks a significant milestone in their hospitality expansion and will contribute to the region's tourism capabilities.

The addition of 300 premium hotel rooms directly addresses the growing demand for quality accommodation in Rameswaram, particularly given its increasing appeal as a spiritual and MICE hub. This development is set to enhance Tamil Nadu's capacity to host a broader spectrum of travellers and events, supporting the state's overall tourism sector growth.
