IHG Hotels & Resorts has finalised a franchise agreement to introduce its Garner brand to Ahmedabad. The 40-room Garner Hotel Ahmedabad Motera is scheduled to open in 2029, enhancing IHG's portfolio in the city.

New Midscale Property for Ahmedabad
IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a franchise agreement for its midscale conversion brand, Garner, in Ahmedabad, India. The new property, named Garner Hotel Ahmedabad Motera, will feature 40 guest rooms. It is slated to commence operations in 2029. This development marks a strategic expansion for IHG within Ahmedabad’s evolving commercial landscape.
The hotel will be situated at the Motera-Sabarmati junction, located in the northern part of Ahmedabad. This addition demonstrates IHG’s continued focus on growing its diverse brand portfolio across key Indian urban centres.
Development and Operational Oversight
Devpriya Buildcon will manage the project development for the Garner Hotel Ahmedabad Motera. United Hospitality Management (UHM) India has been appointed to oversee the hotel's daily operational aspects. The hotel will form part of a larger mixed-use complex.
This wider development will integrate various retail units, multiple dining establishments, extensive banqueting facilities, and a hospital. Deepika Arora, managing director for United Hospitality Management-India, commented on the strengthened partnership with IHG Hotels & Resorts.
Arora stated that new agreements reflect owner confidence in IHG's global brands combined with UHM's local operational expertise. UHM's ongoing focus remains on delivering operational excellence and enhancing long-term asset performance.
IHG's Expanding Footprint in India
The introduction of the Garner Hotel Ahmedabad Motera expands IHG’s existing presence within Ahmedabad. The company currently operates the Crowne Plaza Ahmedabad City Centre. It also manages the Holiday Inn Express Ahmedabad Prahlad Nagar. Furthermore, IHG has another Holiday Inn property under development elsewhere in the city.
Sudeep Jain, managing director for IHG Hotels & Resorts Southwest Asia, highlighted Ahmedabad’s importance. Jain described Ahmedabad as a significant commercial and infrastructure growth centre. This growth is supported by robust economic activity and expanding connectivity. The Garner hotel represents a meaningful addition to IHG’s India growth strategy. It reflects the brand’s appeal in high-potential markets.
Market Implications for Travellers and Industry
The addition of the Garner Hotel Ahmedabad Motera will increase midscale accommodation options in the city. This caters to value-conscious travellers seeking reliable stays in a rapidly developing urban hub. For the industry, this expansion reinforces IHG’s commitment to India’s hospitality sector.
Ahmedabad’s consistent economic trajectory supports further investment in diverse hotel offerings. The integrated mixed-use development model demonstrates a comprehensive approach to urban planning. This approach aims to create a more complete destination for both visitors and local residents.
The project reveals continued confidence from international hotel groups in India's commercial centres, suggesting a positive outlook for future growth in the region.
