Kazakhstan Expands Asia Air Links with New Singapore Route
SCAT Airlines will launch flights from Shymkent to Singapore via Sanya on October 20, adding to increased capacity to China by Kazakh carriers during the 2026 summer season.
New Singapore Service from October 20
Kazakhstan is broadening its air travel network across Asia, with SCAT Airlines announcing a new route connecting Shymkent to Singapore. The service, set to begin on October 20, will include a stop in Sanya, China. SCAT Airlines reported on September 7 that the flight from Shymkent to Sanya will take approximately 6.5 hours, followed by a two-hour transit in Sanya.
Passengers will remain within the airport's sterile transit zone during this layover, bypassing Chinese passport control. The final segment from Sanya to Singapore is expected to last nearly three hours, further integrating Central Asia with Southeast Asian destinations.
Increased Capacity to China and Wider Asia
This new Singapore route is part of a larger expansion by Kazakh airlines into China and other Asian markets. The Air Astana Group reported an 81% increase in its capacity to China during the 2026 summer season, reaching a total of 49 flights per week across seven Chinese destinations.
The group launched several new services, including flights from Almaty to Shanghai and Xi’an, from Astana to Guangzhou, and from Aktau to Urumqi.
Beyond China, the Air Astana Group also expanded its services to Central Asia, the Caucasus, Europe, Türkiye, and other parts of Asia throughout the summer season, demonstrating a strategic focus on regional and international connectivity.
FlyArystan Adds Chongqing Flights, Updates China Travel Advice
Further enhancing connectivity with China, FlyArystan is scheduled to launch twice-weekly flights between Almaty and Chongqing on September 23. For passengers travelling to or from China, FlyArystan has advised arriving at the airport at least three hours before departure.
This recommendation, effective from September 15, follows updated entry and exit procedures that may lead to longer immigration checks. The airline also urged passengers to verify their passport validity and current entry requirements in advance.
The existing visa-free regime between Kazakhstan and China remains in effect, allowing Kazakh citizens to stay in China for up to 30 calendar days per visit.
Implications for Asian Travellers and Industry
The expansion of air links from Kazakhstan, particularly the new Singapore route and increased services to China, shows a growing demand for travel between Central Asia and East and Southeast Asia. For Asian travellers, these new routes offer more direct and potentially cost-effective options for visiting Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries.
