Marriott and LG Debut Cloud TV Platform for Guest Rooms
Marriott International and LG Electronics have launched a new cloud-based entertainment and technology platform, currently piloting in 40 North American hotels with global expansion plans.

Marriott and LG Partner on Guest Room Technology
Marriott International, in partnership with LG Electronics, announced last month the development of a new cloud-based entertainment and technology platform for its guest rooms. This initiative aims to improve the guest stay while also boosting operational efficiency for hotel teams.
The system, which Marriott plans to implement across its global portfolio after an initial trial, is designed to modernise in-room entertainment and establish a foundation for connected guest experiences and device management throughout Marriott properties.
Drew Pinto, Marriott International's executive vice president and chief revenue and technology officer, stated that the platform integrates LG's device capabilities with Marriott's hospitality expertise and enterprise platform.
Enhanced Entertainment and Room Controls
The new platform consolidates entertainment, hotel information, and room functions into a single, user-friendly television interface. Guests will have access to a broad selection of entertainment, including traditional linear television, popular streaming services, and free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) channels, offering greater choice during their stays.
Marriott also noted that the television experience will incorporate personalised advertising through LG Channels and client-side ad insertion. Jake Benner, senior director of sales at LG, explained that the system moves beyond basic entertainment, aiming to make the television a more integrated part of the overall guest room environment.
Operational Efficiency and Future Smart Room Integration
Beyond guest-facing features, the cloud-based platform provides significant operational advantages for Marriott associates. Hotel teams can monitor the health, performance, and status of individual guest room televisions across entire properties, specific brands, or groups of hotels.
This capability helps staff identify device issues more quickly and enhances overall operational visibility. As the platform is cloud-based, new features and capabilities can be introduced progressively, adapting to evolving guest expectations and technological advancements.
Marriott anticipates that these guest room televisions could eventually enable access to smart-room services, connecting with Internet of Things (IoT) devices and other hotel systems for functions like lighting and temperature control, or even leak detection.
Pilot Programme and Global Expansion Outlook
The new guest room platform is commencing with an initial pilot phase across 40 Marriott hotels located in the United States and Canada. Following this trial, Marriott International intends to expand the system across its global portfolio.
For Asian markets, this development suggests that hotels in key regional hubs such as Singapore, Tokyo, and Shanghai could see similar technological upgrades in the coming years, enhancing guest experiences and streamlining operations.
As Marriott operates a substantial number of properties across Asia, the successful implementation of this platform in North America will likely inform its rollout strategy and timeline for the region, potentially setting a new standard for in-room technology in Asian hospitality.
