Oaks Hotels Enters Japan with Two Kyoto Vacation Clubs
Minor Hotels' Oaks brand has commenced operations in Japan with two new properties in Kyoto, offering 20 and 27 rooms respectively, targeting independent travellers.

Oaks Brand Arrives in Japan
Oaks Hotels, Resorts & Suites, a brand under Minor Hotels, has officially commenced operations in Japan, marking its entry into the country's hospitality sector. This expansion includes the launch of two new properties in Kyoto: Oaks Vacation Club Kyoto Gojo and Oaks Vacation Club Kyoto Shijo.
The introduction of these vacation clubs, as announced by Minor Hotels, increases the company's operational footprint within the regional market, bringing its distinct accommodation style to a key Asian destination. This strategic move establishes the Oaks brand's presence in Japan, adding to its growing global portfolio.
Oaks Vacation Club Kyoto Shijo Details
The Oaks Vacation Club Kyoto Shijo property features 27 guest rooms, designed to accommodate various traveller needs. Its configurations range from deluxe double rooms to spacious family suites, providing flexible options for visitors. Each unit at the Kyoto Shijo location is equipped with a kitchenette, catering to guests preferring self-catering facilities during their stay.
Minor Hotels stated that this property is conveniently situated a ten-minute walk from Karasuma Station, offering easy access to Kyoto’s public transport network and numerous city attractions.
Oaks Vacation Club Kyoto Gojo Features
The second new property, Oaks Vacation Club Kyoto Gojo, offers 20 guest rooms, with accommodation types spanning from standard double units to a traditional Japanese-style suite. This variety aims to appeal to a broad spectrum of guests seeking different cultural experiences.
The Kyoto Gojo property is located an eight-minute walk from Shijo Station, enhancing its accessibility for urban explorers. Additionally, it is positioned just one block from Kyoto’s renowned Nishiki Market, a popular destination for sampling local cuisine and experiencing the city's vibrant atmosphere.
Strategic Focus on Kyoto Travellers
Dillip Rajakarier, Group CEO of Minor International, the parent company of Minor Hotels, articulated the rationale behind choosing Kyoto for the brand's Japanese debut. He noted that Kyoto attracts travellers keen to explore at their own pace, a preference that aligns well with the Oaks brand's design philosophy.
Rajakarier emphasised that the central addresses and diverse room configurations, suitable for families, couples, and solo travellers, grant guests the freedom to engage with local culture, from wandering traditional markets to trying local specialities. He described entering Japan with two Kyoto properties as a strong beginning for the Oaks brand.
Implications for Asia's Hospitality Market
The expansion of Oaks Hotels into Japan, particularly with a focus on vacation club properties, signals a growing trend in Asia's hospitality market towards extended-stay and independent travel accommodations.
With Oaks already managing over 60 properties across Australia, New Zealand, China, and the Middle East, this move reinforces Minor Hotels' commitment to strengthening its presence in key Asian tourist destinations.
Other international hotel groups and local Japanese operators may observe the performance of these properties to assess demand for similar offerings, potentially influencing future investment and development strategies in popular cultural centres across the region. This expansion offers more choice for Asian travellers seeking self-sufficient stays in cultural hubs.
