Phu Quoc Among Top Vietnamese Holiday Destinations As Airfares Cool
Phu Quoc Island ranks among Vietnam's most-searched domestic destinations for the upcoming National Day holiday, according to digital travel platform Agoda. This popularity coincides with a reported reduction in air ticket prices compared to the previous year, making seaside holidays more accessible for Vietnamese travellers.

Phu Quoc Leads Search Rankings for National Day Break
Phu Quoc Island, situated off Vietnam's southern province of An Giang, has emerged as one of the ten most-searched domestic destinations for Vietnamese travellers planning trips during the National Day holiday break.
Data compiled by digital travel platform Agoda from May 1 to July 31, covering accommodation searches for stays between August 28 and September 2, shows Phu Quoc secured the ninth position on this list. The top three most-searched locations were Da Nang, Nha Trang, and Da Lat, indicating a strong preference for popular urban and coastal areas.
This trend highlights a consistent demand for established leisure spots as the five-day holiday period from August 29 to September 2 approaches.
Airfare Reductions Boost Travel Accessibility
The increase in search interest for Phu Quoc aligns with a reported cooling of airfares for the holiday period. A survey conducted for the August 28 to September 2 holiday found that average round-trip airfares to Phu Quoc were approximately VND2.6 million from Ho Chi Minh City and VND4.5 million from Hanoi.
Notably, airfares for this year's holiday have shown a decrease compared to the same period last year, with tickets to Phu Quoc falling by around VND2.8 million to VND3.5 million. This reduction in travel costs can make the island a more attractive option for domestic tourists seeking a seaside retreat during the extended public holiday.
Robust Tourism Growth Recorded on Phu Quoc
Phu Quoc Island has demonstrated significant tourism growth throughout the current year. In the first seven months of 2026, the island welcomed 6.8 million visitors, marking a 30% increase year-on-year. This performance means the island has already achieved 80% of its annual tourism target.
The sustained visitor numbers, coupled with the recent surge in search interest on platforms like Agoda, underscore Phu Quoc's enduring appeal as a key domestic tourism destination. The island’s infrastructure and attractions continue to draw a substantial volume of travellers, contributing significantly to its local economy.
Coastal Destinations Dominate Holiday Planning
Agoda's analysis further reveals a broader trend among Vietnamese travellers: coastal and island destinations account for six of the ten most-searched domestic locations. This preference provides travellers with numerous options for a seaside break during the five-day National Day holiday.
The strong showing of coastal areas like Phu Quoc, Da Nang, and Nha Trang suggests that sun-and-sand holidays remain a primary choice for Vietnamese citizens. For both the travel industry and travellers, this indicates that destinations offering beach access and related activities will likely see continued high demand, particularly when pricing becomes more favourable.
