Phu Quoc, Vietnam's largest island, recorded a substantial increase in foreign visitors during July 2026. International arrivals climbed 82% year-on-year, with 176,000 foreign guests welcomed that month. This growth positions the island to meet its annual target of two million international visitors for 2026.

From January to July 2026, Phu Quoc received 1.5 million foreign arrivals. This figure represents a 53% increase compared to the same period last year. These visitor statistics were reported by the province's Department of Tourism. The island is situated off Vietnam's southern province of An Giang. English Proficiency Programme Launched

Nguyen Thi Kim Loan, vice chairwoman of the Phu Quoc People's Committee, discussed the programme's rationale.

She stated the underlying idea is for every resident to serve as a tourism representative. A clear plan exists to enhance English proficiency throughout Phu Quoc. This strategy intends to better present the island's tourism offerings and local culture. The initiative targets residents, service workers, and business owners alike. A pilot program will commence from September 2026. It will continue until June 2027. This initial phase involves 10 to 15 primary, middle, and high schools.
