Polo Hotels Group Debuts Boutique Brand in North-east India
Polo Hotels Group has launched Chapter Hotels & Resorts, a new upscale boutique brand. Its first property opens in Tripura later this year, targeting younger travellers in North-east India. The brand plans further regional expansion.

New Boutique Brand Focuses on Regional Engagement
Polo Hotels Group has introduced Chapter Hotels & Resorts, an upscale boutique brand. This new venture focuses on North-east India, aiming to engage younger travellers seeking local connections. The brand's initial property, Chapter Lakeside, Tripura, is scheduled to open later this year. This 17-key property is situated on the shores of Rudrasagar Lake.
It lies 90 minutes from Agartala airport. The resort offers views of Neermahal Palace. It will provide boat transfers for guests. A lake-view pool and poolside bar are also planned. Dining will feature regional Kokborok and Mui Borok culinary traditions. This launch marks a strategic expansion for the group in the region.
Expansion Plans Across North-east India
The Chapter Hotels & Resorts brand emphasises a distinct local story for each property. Deval Tibrewalla, WTD & CEO, Hotel Polo Towers, stated the brand focuses on authentic regional elements. This includes strategic placement of amenities and locally sourced cuisine. A second property, Chapter Resort Upper Shillong in Meghalaya, will follow.
This 37-key resort will be Shillong's first pool resort. The group's expansion pipeline extends across West Bengal and Nagaland. Further locations are planned throughout the North-east India region. Polo Hotels Group will use owned, managed, and retrofit models for these developments. Each property will integrate local character.
Group Background and Culinary Concept
Properties under the new Chapter brand will feature the Cassette kitchen & bar concept. This concept serves food and beverages using ingredients sourced from regional tea gardens. Hill markets and local growers will also supply produce. Polo Hotels Group, founded in Shillong in 1986 by Kishan Tibrewalla, operates multiple hospitality tiers.
These include Polo Hotels & Resorts in the upscale segment. The Max brand serves the midscale sector. Chapter Hotels & Resorts now occupies the boutique tier. This multi-brand approach demonstrates the group's commitment to diverse market segments. The expansion aims to serve growing travel interest in North-east India.
Implications for Regional Travel
The launch of Chapter Hotels & Resorts signifies a targeted approach to regional tourism. It expands accommodation options for travellers exploring North-east India. The focus on local culture and cuisine provides distinct lodging choices. For the industry, this development increases competition in the boutique segment.
It also highlights the rising appeal of lesser-explored Indian destinations. Future openings will reveal the brand's full impact on regional hospitality. Industry observers will monitor its ability to attract its target demographic. This move could encourage further investment in the area's tourism infrastructure.
