Preferred Expands Bali Footprint
Preferred Hotels & Resorts has enlarged its portfolio in Bali, Indonesia, by incorporating four independent hotels into its L.V.X. Collection. This addition brings the company's total representation in Southeast Asia to 25 properties across seven countries.
Christine Tan, Area Managing Director for Southeast Asia at Preferred Hotels & Resorts, stated that the new properties strengthen the company's presence in Indonesia. She noted the additions enhance the regional portfolio's diversity and competitiveness, providing travellers and industry partners with more choice in a sought-after Asia Pacific destination.
These new Bali properties join AYANA Midplaza Jakarta as Preferred’s offerings in Indonesia. The company's wider Southeast Asian portfolio includes properties such as Dusit Thani Bangkok, The Fullerton Hotel Singapore, Artyzen Singapore, and The RuMa Hotel & Residences in Kuala Lumpur.
Canggu and Uluwatu Additions
The newly added properties include Ametis Villa Bali in Canggu, which comprises 14 residential-style villas, each with a private swimming pool and open-plan living areas. This retreat offers personalised service, including dedicated butler assistance and private airport transfers.
Guests can partake in activities such as cycling through local villages, cultural outings, and private in-villa dining. Canggu is recognised for its rice fields, black sand beaches, and surf culture. Also joining the collection is Nuju Uluwatu, an adults-only boutique retreat that debuted in July 2026. Situated in Bali’s Bingin neighbourhood, it features 17 private pool villas.
This property combines contemporary design with the natural environment of the Bukit Peninsula, appealing to couples and independent travellers seeking a tranquil stay.
Ubud and Sanur Properties
Samsara Ubud, another new member, is located in Kelusa Village, north of central Ubud. This resort consists of 17 villas set within a rainforest landscape, each boasting a heated infinity pool and outdoor living areas.
The resort provides a Chakra Spa, which focuses on holistic wellness treatments inspired by Balinese traditions, alongside Indonesian cuisine with a contemporary approach. Activities offered include daily yoga sessions, art classes, and the Samsara Pustaka literary and cultural sanctuary.
The Meru Sanur, an oceanfront 184-suite resort, is situated on Sanur Beach within 'The Sanur', Indonesia's first special economic zone dedicated to health and wellness tourism. The property features contemporary suites with Balinese design elements and amenities such as beachfront pools, a spa, and a fitness centre.
As a member of the Preferred Wellbeing programme, it emphasises traditional Balinese healing practices and daily activities like nature walks.
Market Implications for Travellers and Industry
This expansion by Preferred Hotels & Resorts demonstrates the sustained appeal of Bali as a destination for luxury travel and specialised wellness tourism.
The inclusion of diverse properties across Canggu, Uluwatu, Ubud, and Sanur provides travellers with varied options, from coastal retreats to cultural immersion and wellness-focused stays, catering to different preferences within the island's varied landscape.
For the industry, this strategic move by Preferred Hotels & Resorts shows confidence in Indonesia's tourism recovery and growth, particularly within the upscale independent hotel sector.
The addition of properties like The Meru Sanur, located within 'The Sanur' special economic zone dedicated to health and wellness tourism, also highlights an industry trend towards integrated tourism offerings and specialised market segments.
This development will likely increase competition in Bali's luxury accommodation market, potentially driving further innovation in guest amenities and bespoke services across the island.
