Robb Report Travel published its annual list of the 50 best luxury hotels worldwide on July 23, 2026. The publication, which has compiled this list since 2023, aims to identify properties that demonstrate genuine excellence in luxury hospitality. The selection process involved Robb Report’s 24 Travel Masters, who are industry specialists. Each master endorsed five newer properties and past favourites, detailing their exceptional qualities. The final list reflects properties repeatedly endorsed by discerning travellers, ensuring each location meets high standards.
Key Trends and Regional Highlights
The 2026 compilation shows a diverse range of luxury accommodation types, including restored heritage buildings in European capitals, villa collections, and luxury lodges situated in deserts, forests, and mountains. Italy emerged with the highest concentration of top-ranked properties, while India also registered a strong presence on the list. Notably, no hotels from the Middle East were included this year, which Robb Report attributes to visitor deterrence caused by ongoing conflict in the region. Antarctica, however, reappeared on the list.
Newcomer Casa Bonavita in Malta Gains Recognition
Among the newly featured hotels is Casa Bonavita in Attard, Malta, a property that opened only months before its inclusion. Founded by Rug Company creators Christopher and Suzanne Sharp, this 17-room establishment, housed in a historic palazzo, is described as offering a private Maltese home ambience rather than a conventional hotel stay. Located a 15-minute drive from Valletta, Casa Bonavita features Sicilian tiles, frescoes, and bespoke wallpapers. Most rooms have outdoor spaces, with Suite 5 incorporating an original family chapel into its design.
