Scat Airlines Connects Singapore and Central Asia

Kazakhstan's Scat Airlines is set to introduce a new twice-weekly service connecting Singapore's Changi Airport with Shymkent, a city in southern Kazakhstan, commencing October 20, 2026. The route will include a stopover in Sanya, China.

Operating with Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, the journey will comprise a three-hour flight to Sanya, followed by a two-hour layover without requiring passport control, and a subsequent 6.5-hour flight to Shymkent. This marks Changi Airport's first direct air link to Central Asia since 2019, according to Scat Airlines. The new connection provides a significant gateway for travellers between Southeast Asia and Kazakhstan.

TransNusa Inaugurates Bali-Phuket Direct Flights

Indonesian airline TransNusa has launched non-stop flights between Bali and Phuket, transforming what was previously a lengthy travel day into a direct four-hour air service. Flight 8B 541 departs Bali at 11:30 and arrives in Phuket at 14:35, with the return flight, 8B 542, leaving Phuket at 15:35 to reach Bali by 20:35.

The route currently operates four times weekly using 174-seat Airbus A320 aircraft. TransNusa plans to increase the frequency to daily services starting October 3, 2026. This new connection reinforces TransNusa's Bali hub, which also serves domestic destinations such as Wakatobi, Lombok, Manado, and Bima, alongside international points like Singapore and Perth.

EgyptAir Outlines Cairo-Singapore-Sydney Service

EgyptAir, in collaboration with Changi Airport Group and Sydney Airport, has announced plans for a new air service linking Cairo, Singapore, and Sydney. This route is targeted to begin in early 2027, pending necessary regulatory approvals. The service will utilise Airbus A350-900 aircraft.

This proposed connection is significant as it would establish the first direct link to North Africa for both Singapore and Australia, aiming to cater to the increasing demand for point-to-point travel between these regions, as stated by the involved parties.

Enhanced Connectivity for Asian Travellers and Hubs

These new and planned routes collectively enhance air connectivity across Asia and beyond. Scat Airlines' link to Shymkent re-establishes a crucial connection between Southeast Asia and Central Asia, offering travellers from Singapore and surrounding regions direct access to Kazakhstan.

TransNusa's direct Bali-Phuket service simplifies travel within Southeast Asia, making popular tourist destinations more accessible and reinforcing Bali as a regional hub.

The prospective EgyptAir route through Singapore positions Changi Airport as a vital transit point between North Africa, Southeast Asia, and Australia, potentially increasing passenger traffic and opening new markets for both leisure and business travellers from early 2027.

These developments reflect a continued focus on expanding route networks to meet evolving travel demands within and from Asia.
