Singapore Airlines, Malaysia Airlines Among World's Cleanest
Singapore Airlines secured second place globally, with Malaysia Airlines also recognised in Skytrax's 2026 survey of over 24 million travellers.

Southeast Asia's Top Cleanliness Performers
Singapore Airlines and Malaysia Airlines have been named among the world's 20 cleanest carriers, according to the 2026 Skytrax survey. The annual assessment, which gathered feedback from more than 24 million travellers globally, positioned Singapore Airlines as the second-cleanest airline worldwide.
This recognition places two Southeast Asian operators within the top echelon for onboard hygiene standards. The Skytrax World Airline Awards are widely regarded in the aviation sector, with results derived from a comprehensive global traveller survey.
Singapore Airlines' Hygiene Focus and Investment
Singapore Airlines achieved its second-place ranking based on evaluations of cabin cleanliness, encompassing seating areas, tray tables, carpets, cabin panels, and lavatories.
The national carrier maintains rigorous hygiene protocols, including deep-cleaning procedures for aircraft, the application of antimicrobial coatings on high-touch surfaces, and high-temperature laundering for all linens.
Furthermore, Singapore Airlines has committed S$1.1 billion (US$834 million) to upgrade all classes across its 41 Airbus A350-900 long-haul and ultra-long-range aircraft, with completion targeted by the end of 2030.
Malaysia Airlines' Cabin Standards and Survey Scope
Malaysia Airlines, the other Southeast Asian representative in the top 20, emphasises cabin hygiene and passenger comfort. The airline states its newer cabins incorporate lightweight materials and contemporary seating designs to enhance the passenger environment.
The extensive Skytrax World Airline Survey underpinning these rankings was conducted from September 2025 to August 2026. It aggregated opinions from travellers of over 100 nationalities, who rated more than 325 airlines on various aspects of their service and cabin experience.
Implications for Asian Travellers and Industry
The inclusion of Singapore Airlines and Malaysia Airlines in Skytrax's top cleanliness rankings offers a competitive advantage for these carriers in the Asian market. For travellers, this recognition provides assurance regarding onboard hygiene, which could influence booking decisions, particularly for long-haul routes where cabin environment is a key factor.
Other Asian airlines may observe these results as an indicator of evolving passenger priorities for cleanliness and consider enhancing their own hygiene protocols and cabin investments to maintain competitiveness in the region's dynamic travel landscape.
