United, Air Canada Boost North American Routes for 2027
United Airlines and Air Canada will introduce six new transborder connections and increase capacity on several existing services across the United States and Canada next year, following a renewed partnership agreement.

Transborder Partnership Renewal Drives Expansion
United Airlines and Air Canada are set to strengthen connectivity between their respective home countries in 2027, with plans to launch six new transborder routes and augment flight frequencies on a number of existing city-pairs.
This expansion follows the renewal of their Transborder Joint Business Agreement, a pact which Air Canada stated on Friday, 16 October 2026, currently supports over 1,200 connecting itineraries.
Since its inception in 2022, the agreement has already facilitated the addition of 20 routes linking the United States and Canada, with the newly announced connections also operating under this established framework.
Air Canada Introduces Three New Services
Air Canada will launch three of the new services. These include a connection between Toronto and Louisville, Kentucky, which will operate seasonally from April to October. This new Toronto service will mark Louisville’s only international air link.
Additionally, the Canadian carrier will commence flights from Montreal to Indianapolis, running from June to September, and establish a route connecting Edmonton with Newark, New Jersey, scheduled from June to October.
Beyond these new additions, Air Canada also intends to increase capacity on its Edmonton to San Francisco route by deploying the larger Airbus A220 aircraft, enhancing passenger options on this existing corridor.
United Adds Routes, Increases Capacity
United Airlines will contribute the remaining three new routes to the expanded network. The American carrier is scheduled to introduce seasonal service from Newark, New Jersey, to St. John’s, Newfoundland. Furthermore, United will establish new connections from Denver to both Ottawa and Quebec City.
In addition to these new routes, United plans to increase the number of flights between Washington, D.C., and Quebec City. The airline will also significantly boost daily seat availability on its Denver to Winnipeg service by 65%. Specific start dates for United’s new routes and increased frequencies were not immediately disclosed.
North American Connectivity Sees Further Growth
Patrick Quayle, United’s Senior Vice President of Global Network Planning and Alliances, commented on the significance of the expansion, noting that Canada represents a crucial component of United’s international network.
He stated that the partnership with Air Canada has facilitated stronger connections for travellers, supported economic growth, and opened new avenues for exploring distinct destinations.
Quayle highlighted that the flight schedule has seen consistent growth annually since the transborder agreement was signed in 2022, affirming the carriers’ commitment to investing in Canadian connectivity and simplifying travel between the two nations. This expansion aims to further enhance travel options and convenience across the North American continent.
Limited Direct Impact on Asian Travel
The expansion of services between United Airlines and Air Canada primarily focuses on enhancing intra-North American connectivity. These new routes and increased capacities are designed to serve the travel demands within the United States and Canada, offering more options for domestic and transborder journeys.
Consequently, these developments do not directly impact Asian travellers or airline operators, as the new routes do not involve Asian destinations or carriers. The strategic emphasis remains on optimising travel within North America, with no immediate or foreseeable direct consequences for the Asian travel market in terms of new routes, fares, or operational shifts.
