Air Canada Card Refreshes Travel Benefits

Chase has updated its Air Canada Aeroplan Credit Card, introducing a range of benefits aimed at frequent travellers, according to details released on 13 September 2026. For an annual fee of US$195, cardholders can now access a fast-track to World of Hyatt Globalist elite status and secure a 15% discount on Aeroplan flight redemptions.

These core advantages do not necessitate extensive everyday spending on the card, making them accessible to those who primarily use other payment methods but seek specific travel perks. The card also grants ongoing Aeroplan 25K elite status, enhancing travel with Air Canada and its partners.

Accelerated Path to Hyatt Globalist Status

A significant feature of the refreshed card is its provision of a challenge to achieve Hyatt Globalist status with just 20 qualifying nights within a 90-day period, a substantial reduction from the usual 60 nights required annually.

To participate, cardholders must link their Aeroplan 25K status, provided by the card, with their World of Hyatt account and register for the challenge by 31 December 2026. The 90-day qualification window commences upon registration, with successful completion granting Globalist status through February 2028.

During the challenge, participants receive trial Explorist status, offering an immediate enhancement to their hotel stays.

Aeroplan Award Flight Savings

Cardholders can benefit from a 15% reduction in the points required for eligible Aeroplan award flights. Air Canada has confirmed this discount applies even when a significant portion of the itinerary is operated by Aeroplan's partner airlines, provided the booking includes at least one Air Canada flight segment.

For example, a short Air Canada connection can make an entire one-way journey, including long-haul partner flights, eligible for the points discount. This benefit does not require points to be earned via the Chase Aeroplan card; points transferred from other banks or existing Aeroplan balances are also eligible.

Additionally, the card offers two annual US$50 Air Canada statement credits, one for January–June and another for July–December, which can further offset its annual fee.

Earning Points and Status Qualifying Credits

While the primary benefits do not demand high spending, the card does offer incentives for its use. New applicants can earn 75,000 bonus points after spending US$4,000 within three months, plus an additional 40,000 points after reaching US$20,000 in purchases within 12 months.

For those aiming for higher Aeroplan elite tiers, the card provides Status Qualifying Credits (SQC) based on annual spending. Cardholders receive 5,000 SQC for simply holding the card, with further tiers at US$25,000 (15,000 SQC total) and US$50,000 (25,000 SQC total) in calendar-year spending, which can contribute to earning Milestone Benefits like Priority Rewards.
