SWISS Begins Direct Service to Bengaluru

SWISS flight LX140 completed its inaugural journey from Zurich to Bengaluru on 28 October 2026. This new connection introduces five weekly non-stop flights between Switzerland and one of India's prominent technology and business centres.

The airline, part of the Lufthansa Group, has thus expanded its network into Southern India, aiming to facilitate travel for both commercial and leisure purposes. This development provides a direct link that was previously unavailable, catering to growing demand for access to India's dynamic economic regions.

Strategic Investment in India's Market

Jens Fehlinger, CEO of SWISS, affirmed the significance of the new route, noting it extends beyond merely adding a flight path. He stated the service creates fresh prospects for passengers, Swiss enterprises, and Switzerland's standing as a business location.

Mr Fehlinger underscored India's substantial market potential, identifying Bengaluru as a leading technology and innovation hub within Asia. This expansion is part of a deliberate strategy to grow the airline's long-haul network and reinforce Switzerland's international air access.

Expanding Indian Network to Three Cities

Bengaluru now represents SWISS's third destination in India, complementing existing services to Delhi and Mumbai. This targeted expansion reflects the airline's commitment to the Indian subcontinent, acknowledging its growing importance in global commerce and tourism.

The addition of Bengaluru specifically addresses the need for direct air travel to a city recognised for its rapid technological advancements and economic output. This strategic move aims to capture a larger share of the outbound and inbound travel market for the region.

Implications for Asian Travel and Commerce

The introduction of direct SWISS flights between Zurich and Bengaluru offers significant advantages for travellers and businesses across Asia. Passengers in India, particularly from the southern regions, gain a direct, time-saving option for reaching Switzerland and onward European connections.

This increased accessibility can stimulate tourism from Europe to India and facilitate stronger trade and investment links between Swiss and Indian companies. For other Asian carriers operating routes to Europe, this new service could introduce greater competition, potentially influencing pricing and service offerings on similar long-haul corridors.
