AmaNubia Set for Nile Debut

AmaWaterways will introduce its new luxury river ship, AmaNubia, on Egypt's Nile River. The vessel is scheduled to commence sailings in November 2026. This 236-foot ship will offer multi-day programmes. These comprehensive itineraries combine river cruises with extensive land excursions. They also integrate premium hotel accommodation. The AmaNubia can host 76 guests.

It features 23 staterooms and 15 spacious suites. This configuration aims to provide a focused and intimate exploration of Egypt. AmaWaterways currently operates cruises across Europe, Southeast Asia, Africa, and South America. The AmaNubia's deployment expands the company's African presence. It specifically targets travellers seeking to visit Egypt's towering ancient wonders. The company aims to bring history to life during these voyages.

Ship Features and Onboard Experience

AmaNubia's interiors draw inspiration from ancient Egyptian artistry. Its design incorporates various textures and colours. The vessel shares many venues and amenities with the 236-foot AmaLilia. The AmaLilia launched in 2024. However, AmaNubia features a distinct layout and design. Onboard amenities include a main restaurant and a more intimate Chef's Table for dining.

Guests can access a sundeck, a club, and a pool for relaxation. A dedicated wellness area and fitness centre are available. Engaging lectures are part of the onboard programme. These sessions are led by dedicated Egyptologists on every sailing. The ship also features a 525-square-foot owner's suite on the upper deck. This suite offers expansive accommodation.

Comprehensive Itinerary and Land Components

The AmaNubia will sail the "Secrets of Egypt & the Nile" itinerary. This route includes visits to several prominent landmarks. Guests will see the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx. The Grand Egyptian Museum is also on the schedule. Further visits include Luxor Temple, Karnak Temple, and the Valley of the Kings.

A private tour of Cairo's historic Abdeen Palace is also part of the programme. The itinerary integrates a stay at the Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at the First Residence. This ensures consistent service standards both on water and land. Optional excursions extend the core itinerary. These include a visit to the Abu Simbel temple.

Guests can also opt for high tea at the Sofitel Legend Old Cataract hotel in Aswan. Further travel options permit visits to Alexandria, Dubai, and Jordan. These create broader Middle Eastern travel possibilities.

Market Context and Industry Implications

AmaWaterways CEO Catherine Powell noted strong renewed interest in Egypt. She stated travellers seek to visit its history, vibrant culture, and warm hospitality. Powell added that AmaNubia elevates the guest visit. This occurs through ship design, expert Egyptologists, and hotel partnerships. She highlighted creating a seamless luxury journey from arrival in Cairo.

Industry experts consider river cruises a secure way to travel in Egypt. Vessels dock near attractions, and all excursions are chaperoned. The introduction of AmaNubia expands luxury river cruise options on the Nile. This caters to affluent travellers seeking integrated land and water programmes. The November 2026 launch demonstrates confidence in Egypt's tourism sector.

This development could prompt other operators to enhance their offerings. Travellers can anticipate more comprehensive luxury packages in the region. The emphasis on expert Egyptologists further enriches the cultural aspect of the trip. This aligns with a growing demand for educational travel.
