Loyalty Programme Bonuses Unveiled

Several prominent credit card issuers have initiated a round of transfer bonuses for their loyalty programmes, providing cardholders with enhanced conversion rates to partner airlines and hotel groups. These offers, which began in August 2026, are set to conclude by the end of September 2026.

Among the most notable offers, Chase Ultimate Rewards is providing a 70% bonus when points are transferred to IHG One Rewards, while Citi ThankYou Rewards is offering a 40% bonus for transfers to Turkish Miles&Smiles. American Express Membership Rewards holders can receive a 30% bonus for transfers to British Airways Club, Iberia Club, and Aer Lingus AerClub.

These promotions aim to encourage the movement of reward points into specific travel loyalty programmes, potentially yielding greater value for flights and accommodation.

American Express and Capital One Incentives

American Express Membership Rewards is currently offering a 30% bonus on transfers to British Airways Club, Iberia Club, and Aer Lingus AerClub. This offer is valid until September 27, 2026, meaning 1,000 Membership Rewards points convert to 1,300 Avios. All three loyalty programmes utilise Avios as their currency, allowing for cost-free transfers between them at a 1:1 rate.

Separately, Capital One is providing a 15% bonus for transfers to Avianca Lifemiles. This particular promotion concludes on August 31, 2026, converting 1,000 Capital One miles into 1,150 Lifemiles. Capital One miles typically process instantly upon transfer, according to The Points Guy’s August 2026 valuations, which placed their worth at 1.85 cents each.

Chase and Citi Rewards Enhanced

Chase Ultimate Rewards is presenting two distinct transfer bonuses. Cardholders can receive a 70% bonus when converting points to IHG One Rewards, an offer that expires on August 31, 2026. This translates to 1,000 Ultimate Rewards points becoming 1,700 IHG One Rewards points.

Additionally, Chase is offering a 20% bonus for transfers to Air Canada Aeroplan, available until September 30, 2026, converting 1,000 points into 1,200 Aeroplan points. Citi ThankYou Rewards has also introduced multiple bonuses. A 20% bonus applies to transfers to Air France-KLM Flying Blue until August 22, 2026, with 1,000 points yielding 1,200 miles for eligible Citi cards.

Furthermore, Citi is offering a 40% bonus for transfers to Turkish Miles&Smiles, ending August 31, 2026, where 1,000 points convert to 1,400 miles with qualifying Citi cards.

Asian Carrier Bonus and Market Implications

An additional 10% bonus is available for transfers to Cathay Pacific’s Cathay loyalty programme. This bonus applies to points transferred from American Express Membership Rewards, Bilt, Capital One miles, Citi ThankYou Rewards, Marriott Bonvoy, and Wells Fargo Rewards.

This specific promotion concludes on August 28, 2026, with varying transfer ratios depending on the originating points or miles programme. For travellers and industry observers, these time-limited offers demonstrate a consistent strategy by credit card issuers and loyalty programmes to incentivise point transfers.

Individuals holding these credit card reward points can leverage these bonuses to secure flights or hotel stays at a reduced effective cost, provided they act before the specified deadlines. The promotions drive utility for existing reward point balances, encouraging their conversion into specific travel currencies.
