Luxury Expedition Combines Superyacht and Remote Chalet

EYOS Expeditions, a specialist in bespoke travel, has introduced a new luxury package exploring Alaska by both sea and land. Named 'From Sea to Summit: Ultimate Alaska', this offering combines a deep-water voyage aboard the 157-foot expedition superyacht Hanse Explorer with an exclusive buyout of the Sheldon Chalet, situated at 6,000 feet within Denali National Park.

The comprehensive itinerary is designed to provide access to Alaska's most untouched natural environments, according to EYOS. Bey Lyons, CEO of EYOS, stated that this pairing unlocks an unprecedented level of access to the state’s remote landscapes, offering a rare opportunity for privacy and extensive exploration.

The package will become available starting from summer 2027, with rates beginning at US$437,500, and is fully customisable to individual interests.

Exclusive Stay at Sheldon Chalet

The land-based segment of the expedition features a complete buyout of the five-bedroom Sheldon Chalet, a remote lodge located just 10 miles from Denali’s summit on a nunatak, or ridge. This unique position offers unparalleled views of the mountain and surrounding wilderness.

The chalet is only accessible by helicopter, ensuring privacy and exclusivity for guests during their three or four-day stay. Activities available from the chalet include crevasse rappelling, rock and ice climbing, and skiing, alongside guided explorations of the Don Sheldon Amphitheater, a region named after the pioneering 20th-century aviator.

Dinners at the chalet are prepared using locally sourced Alaskan ingredients, complementing the immersive wilderness experience.

Exploring Alaska’s Waters Aboard Hanse Explorer

For the sea portion of the adventure, guests will reside on the Hanse Explorer, an expedition superyacht designed for navigating challenging waters. The 157-foot vessel is equipped to cut through icy seas and traverse narrow fjords, reaching areas inaccessible to conventional ships.

It features seven staterooms, including an owner’s cabin with a private outdoor space, and is operated by a crew of 15. Onboard amenities include a Jacuzzi and sauna for relaxation after sea excursions, alongside a spacious dining room. For active exploration, the superyacht carries Zodiac tenders and two-person inflatable kayaks.

A Nitrox dive centre also allows for underwater activities such as diving and snorkelling in Alaska’s diverse marine environments.

Diverse Alaskan Destinations and Wildlife

The expedition's itinerary includes visits to several of Alaska’s biologically rich and scenic locations. Among these are the Inian Islands, known for abundant wildlife such as Steller sea lions and bald eagles.

Hoonah and Icy Strait serve as prime locations for observing humpback whales, while the remote islands of Admiralty, Baranof, and Chichagof offer opportunities to visit natural hot springs amidst fjords, glaciers, and waterfalls.

This extensive exploration aims to showcase the vastness of Alaska’s natural beauty and diverse ecosystems, from its mountainous interior to its expansive coastal regions. The customisable nature of the package ensures each journey can be tailored to specific interests in wildlife observation or adventure activities.

Implications for Asian Luxury Travel Markets

This ultra-luxury expedition by EYOS highlights a growing trend in high-net-worth travel towards highly exclusive, remote, and customised experiences.

For Asian luxury travel markets, this approach could inspire similar bespoke offerings that combine unique accommodations with adventurous exploration in less-travelled regions, such as the remote archipelagos of Southeast Asia or the Himalayan foothills.

While the Alaskan destination primarily draws from Western markets, the customisation and privacy elements are increasingly sought after by affluent Asian travellers.

Operators in Asia may observe this model for developing premium packages that cater to a demand for unique access to natural wonders, potentially driving innovation in regional luxury tourism products and attracting a discerning global clientele.
