Marriott Luxury Collection Launches 10 Immersive Cultural Expeditions Globally
Marriott International’s Luxury Collection has launched a new global travel programme featuring 10 distinct itineraries across four continents, designed for deeper cultural engagement.

New Global Travel Programme Launched
Marriott International’s Luxury Collection has introduced a new global travel programme, "The Luxury Collection Expeditions". This initiative comprises 10 distinct itineraries across four continents. It aims to provide guests with more profound engagement in their chosen destinations. The offerings span North America, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean.
This launch reflects a growing traveller preference for culturally immersive experiences. Bruce Rohr, Vice President and Global Brand Leader for The Luxury Collection, stated the expeditions foster a deeper, personal understanding of each location. These programmes integrate expert guidance and local cultural context.
They connect guests with regional practices, people, and landscapes. The Expeditions include three distinct formats. "Private Tailored Journeys" offer bespoke multi-day itineraries. These are created around individual guest interests. "Day Discoveries" provide single-day cultural engagements. They highlight specific aspects of a destination.
"Residencies & Collaborations" are limited-time programmes. These connect guests with local craftspeople and subject matter experts.
Inaugural Itineraries Detailed
The inaugural collection features several notable programmes. One "Private Tailored Journey" is "The Imperial Journey" in Japan. This 10-day itinerary explores Tokyo, Kyoto, and Nara. Guests stay at three Luxury Collection hotels during this period. Activities include visiting a samurai residence. Participants also learn sushi-making from a fourth-generation master.
Access to rarely opened temple spaces is provided alongside a resident monk. An intimate geiko dinner in Gion completes the cultural immersion. Another offering, a "Day Discovery", is hosted at The Phoenician. This Luxury Collection resort is located in Scottsdale, Arizona. The programme explores the Sonoran Desert environment.
It focuses on conservation, architecture, and local cuisine. Guests receive access to the Desert Botanical Garden. A private tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s desert laboratory is also included. The day concludes with a farm-to-table dinner. This meal draws inspiration from the local landscapes and traditions.
Diverse Destinations and Local Expertise
Additional "Residencies & Collaborations" programmes are available. Salterra resort, a Luxury Collection property in South Caicos, hosts three expert-led options. These programmes explore the island's unique environment. They focus on coral reefs, remote flats, and coastal cays. Dark skies astronomy forms another key aspect of these immersive tours.
The expeditions generally involve various local experts. Historians, artisans, chefs, and winemakers participate as guides. Conservationists and other specialists lead guests. They facilitate visits to vineyards, workshops, and kitchens. Archaeological sites and natural ecosystems are also explored.
Other destinations in the initial collection include Italy, Spain, Greece, and Saudi Arabia. These programmes aim to immerse guests in local cultural heritage. Craftsmanship, cuisine, ecosystems, and wellness practices form core elements of the itineraries.
Industry Response to Traveller Demand
The launch of these expeditions demonstrates a strategic move by Marriott. It addresses the increasing demand for deeper, authentic travel engagements. Travellers are actively seeking connections beyond conventional tourism. The Luxury Collection's global portfolio includes over 130 hotels and resorts. These span approximately 40 countries and territories.
This wide reach provides a substantial foundation for expansion. Marriott plans to unveil additional expeditions later this year. These new programmes will further diversify the offerings. They will cover more destinations across its global network. This initiative reveals the industry's focus on curated, culturally rich travel.
It offers travellers more specialised options for exploration. The move also highlights hotels' efforts to enhance guest stays. They integrate local culture, wellness, and outdoor activities.
