New York Museums Present Art Exhibits Into 2027
Visitors to New York City can explore prominent art displays at institutions including the New Museum, Guggenheim, and MoMA, with shows scheduled until March 2027.

New Museum Highlights Lower Manhattan History and Art
New York City presents a compelling schedule of art exhibits extending into early 2027, drawing visitors to institutions across Manhattan and Brooklyn.
The New Museum, located in lower Manhattan, features two significant displays. 'Arthur Jafa: I Am Tony' is the first solo presentation of the American artist and cinematographer's four-decade career, including his eight-minute videomontage 'Love is the Message, the Message is Death'. This exhibit closes on January 3, 2027.
Concurrently, 'Bowery: Devil’s Mile' traces four centuries of the historic street's evolution, from a Lenape footpath to a hub for various subcultures. This exploration concludes on January 31, 2027, offering historical insights through 19th-century flyers and photographs.
Guggenheim and Amant Feature Large-Scale Installations
The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum on Museum Mile hosts Taryn Simon's 'Father Country I Do Love You', a large-scale presentation that combines images, text, video, and sculpture.
The exhibit, which fills the museum's rotunda, explores interwoven narratives of historical events and characters, drawing from the artist's personal accounts and an anonymous ex-FBI agent's recollections. This installation remains on view until March 14, 2027. Further afield, in East Williamsburg, Amant features 'Sentient Earth', a campus-wide installation.
This free public exhibit invites 28 artists to interpret the planet's sentience, presenting works that reflect on human environmental impact with urgency and occasional humour. 'Sentient Earth' is accessible until February 14, 2027.
MoMA Explores Surrealism and Social Issues
The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) provides two distinct exhibits. 'The Surrealist Book: Tomorrow Lives in Mirrors' showcases books as art, exploring Surrealists’ use of the medium for ideological and formal experimentation. Notable works include rare pieces from André Breton and Max Ernst, alongside photomontages by Claude Cahun. This exhibit runs until January 23, 2027.
Additionally, MoMA presents 'Teresa Margolles: Aproximación al lugar de los hechos (Approaching the Scene)', which uses forensic methods to examine femicide and systemic violence across the United States. A second part of this exhibit, 'Teresa Margolles: En el lugar de los hechos (At the Scene)', is on view at MoMA PS1 in Long Island City through February 2027. The main MoMA exhibit continues until summer 2027.
Fashion Institute of Technology and Asian Travel Implications
The Museum at Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) explores the influence of dolls on fashion in its 'Doll Dressing' exhibit. Spanning three centuries, the display illustrates how miniature muses have shaped clothing design, from children's toys to designer inspirations.
It features works from brands like Margiela, Loewe, and Marc Jacobs, alongside various doll types including Barbie, boudoir dolls, and Takara. This exhibit is available for viewing through January 2027.
For Asian travellers, especially those from markets like Japan and South Korea where fashion and contemporary art hold strong appeal, these New York City exhibits serve as a tangible reason to plan trips to the United States.
The availability of high-profile cultural events through early 2027 provides a clear timeline for those considering an international art-focused itinerary, potentially influencing booking patterns for flights and accommodation over the coming months.
