Penang to Host 9th International Travel Exchange with 100 Buyers
The Penang Waterfront Convention Centre will welcome 100 global travel trade professionals and 50 Malaysian exhibitors from 27 to 29 October 2026.

Penang Welcomes Global Travel Trade
The 9th Penang International Travel Exchange (PITE) 2026 is scheduled to take place from 27 to 29 October 2026, bringing together significant figures from the worldwide travel trade and Malaysia's tourism sector. The event will be held at the Penang Waterfront Convention Centre (PWCC) and is expected to host 100 buyers.
These buyers represent various travel trade segments, including corporate, incentive, and association travel. Additionally, 50 exhibitors from across Malaysia's tourism ecosystem are anticipated to participate, showcasing a broad spectrum of local offerings.
Structured Meetings and Destination Familiarisation
The PITE 2026 programme is structured to include 1.5 days dedicated to pre-arranged business-to-business (B2B) appointments. Following these meetings, attendees will spend another 1.5 days engaging in familiarisation activities throughout Penang.
These activities are designed to provide international buyers with direct exposure to the destination's tourism products, rich cultural heritage, diverse culinary experiences, and overall appeal, extending beyond the formal exhibition setting.
Platform for Cross-Border Business
YB Wong Hon Wai, Penang State executive councillor for tourism and creative economy, stated that PITE has developed into a crucial platform for the tourism industry. He noted its role in enabling connections, facilitating the exchange of ideas, and generating new business opportunities across international borders.
Mr Wong also expressed particular satisfaction regarding the diverse group of buyers attending this year, representing both established and emerging markets, which underscores the event's growing reach and significance.
Boosting Penang's Tourism Profile
The return of PITE 2026 is set to directly benefit Penang's tourism industry by fostering new partnerships and increasing the visibility of its offerings to a global audience.
The direct engagement between international buyers and local exhibitors at the PWCC, combined with immersive familiarisation tours, can lead to the creation of new travel packages and a rise in visitor numbers for the Malaysian state.
This initiative reinforces Penang's position as a key destination for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) within Southeast Asia, providing a tangible boost to its economic landscape.
