World Travel Awards Gala Convenes in Jamaica

The World Travel Awards Caribbean & The Americas Gala Ceremony 2026 took place on 11 October 2026 at the Princess Grand Jamaica. This event gathered prominent figures from the travel and tourism sectors across the Caribbean, Central America, North America, and South America.

The gala served as a platform to acknowledge excellence among a diverse range of categories, including hotels, resorts, airlines, tour operators, destinations, and tourism attractions. The Princess Grand Jamaica, situated on the coastline between Montego Bay and Negril, welcomed industry leaders for an evening dedicated to recognition and professional networking. This ceremony formed the flagship evening of World Travel Week Jamaica.

Global Tour Context and Host Destination's Appeal

The gala in Jamaica represents a key stop in the World Travel Awards Grand Tour 2026, a global initiative to identify and honour top travel and tourism organisations worldwide.

Graham Cooke, Founder and President of World Travel Awards, expressed his enthusiasm for hosting the event in Jamaica, noting the destination's unique combination of natural environment, culture, and hospitality, which together form a compelling global identity.

Donovan White, Director of Tourism for Jamaica, stated that hosting World Travel Week exhibits the nation's high standard of hospitality and world-class offerings, reinforcing Jamaica's status as a globally recognised tourism destination.

World Travel Week Jamaica Continues with Upcoming Events

World Travel Week Jamaica commenced with the Caribbean & The Americas Gala, and will continue with a series of international events following the 11 October ceremony.

On 12 October, three distinct award programmes are scheduled: the World MICE Awards, which recognise excellence in meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions; the World Travel Tech Awards, honouring innovation in travel technology; and the World Cruise Awards, celebrating achievements in the cruise sector.

The programme will then proceed on 13 October with the World Social Media Awards and 10 Best, acknowledging digital engagement and top-tier travel offerings. Concluding the week's award activities, the World Culinary Awards will be staged on 14 October, recognising leading food and beverage offerings within the travel industry.

These upcoming events collectively broaden the scope of recognition within the global travel and hospitality industry, drawing further attention to Jamaica as a host for diverse industry segments.

Global Recognition's Value for Asian Tourism

The World Travel Awards Grand Tour 2026, which included prior ceremonies in Zanzibar, Dubai, and the Maldives, and will continue to Montenegro before its Grand Final in Tanzania, demonstrates the global pursuit of excellence in travel.

For Asian destinations and hospitality brands, participation and recognition in such international awards programmes can significantly enhance their global standing. For instance, the Maldives, a previous host, benefits from the visibility and prestige associated with these events, drawing attention from travellers and industry professionals worldwide.

This type of global acknowledgement shows the importance of consistent service quality and innovative offerings, providing a benchmark for Asian markets aiming to attract international visitors and investment.

Asian tourism boards and operators should consider the strategic value of engaging with global platforms to promote their unique offerings and compete effectively on the international stage.
