Singapore Airlines Tops Skytrax Global Airline Ranking for 2026
The carrier outperformed last year's winner, Qatar Airways, in a survey of over 24 million travellers, with Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific also placing in the top three.

Global Recognition for Singapore Airlines
Singapore Airlines (SIA) has been named the world's premier carrier for 2026 by London-based research firm Skytrax, according to their annual global survey. This achievement sees SIA surpass last year's top airline, Qatar Airways, which secured the second position.
The comprehensive ranking by Skytrax involved feedback from more than 24 million travellers representing over 100 nationalities, who evaluated more than 325 airlines. The survey period spanned from September 2025 to August 2026, culminating in the latest results that place an Asian carrier at the forefront of global aviation excellence.
Asian Carriers Prominent in Top Rankings
The Skytrax survey results reveal a strong presence of Asian airlines among the global elite. Following Singapore Airlines and Qatar Airways, Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific Airways secured the third spot, with Japan's ANA All Nippon Airways placing fourth. Turkish Airlines completed the top five.
In the low-cost sector, Singapore Airlines' subsidiary, Scoot, earned the title of best long-haul low-cost airline for the sixth consecutive year. Scoot also achieved second place in the overall world's best low-cost airline category, coming in behind AirAsia, further solidifying the strong performance of Asian budget carriers.
Passenger Growth and Network Expansion
Singapore Airlines and Scoot reported significant operational growth, carrying a combined 42.2 million passengers between April 2025 and March 2026. This figure represents a 7.7 per cent increase compared to the previous year, as reported by The Straits Times.
Building on this momentum, Singapore Airlines is set to expand its European network with the launch of new flights to Madrid in October 2026. This expansion demonstrates the airline's strategy to enhance connectivity and capacity in key international markets, contributing to its overall passenger volume and global reach.
Implications for Asian Aviation Sector
Singapore Airlines' top ranking and robust passenger growth establish a clear benchmark for service quality and operational efficiency within the Asian aviation sector. Other major Asian carriers, particularly those in the premium and long-haul segments, must scrutinise their own customer satisfaction metrics and network development strategies to compete effectively.
The success of SIA and Scoot, alongside other regional players like Cathay Pacific and ANA in the top five, indicates that customer preference is heavily influenced by consistent service delivery and strategic network expansion.
Competitors in the Asian aviation market must evaluate their service quality and network strategies to match the benchmark set by Singapore Airlines' consistent high performance.
