Thailand's High-Value Tourism Push

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) launched the World Travel & Culture Expo 2026 in Bangkok from 29–31 October 2026. This international trade fair supports the country's objective to become a leading tourism and entertainment centre in Southeast Asia.

TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool stated the agency is pursuing a "value over volume" strategy, encouraging visitors to spend more and remain longer, thereby distributing tourism income more widely to local businesses, communities, and smaller cities.

Visitor Economy Focus at Expo

The World Travel & Culture Expo 2026 centred on business matching within the "visitor economy". Exhibitors at the Bangkok event presented innovations such as theme-park and virtual reality technology, stage and event equipment, billiards and indoor sports gear, alongside art toys and character licensing.

This focus aligns with TAT's broader efforts to attract diverse investments and partnerships that enhance Thailand's competitiveness in the global travel sector.

“Transform Together” Strategy

Governor Kiatphaibool explained that the expo is an integral part of TAT's "Transform Together" strategy. This initiative relies on collaborations both within and outside the traditional tourism industry to strengthen Thailand's position.

The ultimate goal is to establish the country as a "high-value and meaningful destination", moving beyond simple visitor numbers to focus on the economic impact and quality of the travel experience.

Developing Future Tourism Products

According to a statement from the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the expo was designed to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, technology, and innovation among both Thai and international businesses. This exchange is intended to empower participants to create and refine tourism products and services that cater to the evolving preferences of modern travellers.

The emphasis on innovation aims to support the country's shift towards higher-spending visitors and more sustainable tourism models.

Outlook for Thailand's Tourism Sector

The World Travel & Culture Expo 2026 serves as a key component in Thailand's strategy to enhance its tourism offerings and attract higher-value visitors.

Following the event, the Tourism Authority of Thailand is expected to further develop partnerships identified at the expo, particularly those supporting the creation of new technology-driven attractions and cultural experiences.

This approach aims to concretely increase average visitor spend per trip and extend the average length of stay, with specific initiatives targeting secondary cities for development during 2027.
