Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific is broadening its network across Latin America through new codeshare agreements with oneworld partner Iberia, as reported by TTG Asia on July 31, 2026. These partnerships will extend Cathay Pacific's reach to Fortaleza and Recife in Brazil, Buenos Aires in Argentina, and Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. This marks the first time Argentina and the Dominican Republic will be part of Cathay Pacific's codeshare network. The airline already maintains codeshare services to six destinations in four Latin American countries, including Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo in Brazil, Mexico City and Guadalajara in Mexico, Lima in Peru, and Santiago in Chile. To facilitate this expansion, Cathay Pacific will increase its non-stop Hong Kong-Madrid service by three weekly flights from October 25, 2026. This addition will bring the route to daily operations, with new flights scheduled for Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
TransNusa Boosts Southeast Asian Connections
Indonesian carrier TransNusa has commenced direct scheduled flights connecting Bali and Phuket, further developing its international network from Bali, TTG Asia stated on July 31, 2026. The new service operates four times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, utilising an Airbus A320 aircraft configured with 174 seats. Phuket represents TransNusa’s fourth international destination departing from Bali, joining existing routes to Perth, Singapore, and Guangzhou. This expansion underscores the airline's strategy to establish Bali as a key international hub within Indonesia. Furthermore, TransNusa is strengthening its links with Thailand, with scheduled flights between Jakarta and Bangkok set to begin on August 6, 2026. This Jakarta-Bangkok route marks the airline's second new international service launched in the latter half of 2026.
Emirates Rolls Out Enhanced Economy Headrests
Emirates is progressively fitting new adjustable headrests across its Economy Class cabins, with installation actively underway across its fleet, TTG Asia reported on July 31, 2026. The "U-Dream" headrest will be installed on Economy Class seats across all Emirates Airbus A350 aircraft, as well as the majority of its Airbus A380s and Boeing 777s. Currently, three A350 aircraft already feature the new headrest, and Emirates aims to complete installation across its entire A350 fleet by the close of 2026. The airline also confirms that all 270 Boeing 777X aircraft on order will come pre-installed with the headrest. Retrofitting of existing Airbus A380s and Boeing 777s is scheduled to commence from 2027. Developed in collaboration with Safran Seats as part of their Z400 seat design, the headrest allows vertical and tilt adjustments, alongside side wings that fold inwards to support the head and neck. It has undergone testing to meet European Union Aviation Safety Agency standards.
Cebu Pacific to Introduce Starlink Inflight Connectivity
Cebu Pacific plans to equip its aircraft fleet with Starlink inflight Wi-Fi technology starting in 2027, making it the first low-cost carrier in Southeast Asia to offer this service to passengers, flight crews, and operational teams, according to TTG Asia on July 31, 2026. This initiative is part of a broader strategy by Indigo Partners, which also owns Frontier Airlines, Wizz Air, Volaris, and JetSMART. Collectively, these airlines intend to install Starlink on more than 1,000 aircraft. The satellite-based system, developed by SpaceX, is designed to support high-bandwidth activities during flights, including streaming content, online gaming, and internet-based work. The introduction of Starlink by Cebu Pacific aims to enhance connectivity options for its customers and improve operational efficiency across its network.
