Global Travel Industry Gathers in Singapore

ITB Asia 2026, described as Asia-Pacific's largest 3-in-1 travel trade show, opened its doors in Singapore on 21 October 2026. The event, organised by Messe Berlin Asia Pacific, is being held at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands, until 23 October.

It brings together over 1,000 exhibiting brands and 1,500 qualified buyers, with more than 18,000 participants expected overall. The 19th edition of the show runs concurrently with MICE Show Asia and Travel Tech Asia, serving as a key meeting point for destinations, hospitality groups, travel businesses, and technology innovators. The overarching theme for this year's event is “Experiences in Motion: Human-Centred Design in Travel & Tourism”.

New Zones and Expanded MICE Offerings

The 2026 edition introduces several new features, including a dedicated Experience Zone designed to showcase companies offering travel activities, attractions, and unique experiences. Within this zone, Tripadvisor hosts its Experience Pavilion, providing a focal point for this segment.

To facilitate industry networking and knowledge exchange, the event also offers complimentary curated Guided Tours and an invitation-only networking session specifically for association executives.

A significant development for this year is the MICE Show Asia, which has seen its exhibition space increase by 184% compared to its 2025 footprint, reflecting a growing focus on the meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions sector.

Diverse Exhibitors and Extensive Conference Programme

The exhibition floor covers a broad spectrum of the travel industry, encompassing destinations, hospitality providers, attractions, transport companies, tour operators, and travel technology firms.

Participating brands include Agoda, Tourism Fiji, Turespaña, Trip.com Group, Uganda Convention Bureau, EVA Airways, Mandai Wildlife Group, PROMPERU, Radisson Hotel Group, Resorts World Sentosa, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

MICE Show Asia features entities such as Firenze Fiera, Sapporo Convention Bureau, and Sri Lanka Convention Bureau, while Travel Tech Asia hosts technology companies like Airbnb, DerbySoft, Exely, and Sunrate.

Over the three days, the conference programme will deliver 4,500 minutes of content across more than 100 sessions, featuring 160 speakers who will discuss evolving travel demand, human-centred experiences, and the influence of artificial intelligence.

Fostering Business and Singapore's Role

ITB Asia 2026 aims to facilitate approximately 60,000 targeted business appointments, connecting buyers with relevant exhibitors to create commercial opportunities. The opening ceremony was attended by Ms Gan Siow Huang, Singapore's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Energy, Trade and Industry, alongside other international travel and tourism leaders.

Darren Seah, Executive Director for Messe Berlin APAC, noted that the event gathers the global travel industry to translate an understanding of people's travel desires into business outcomes.

He added that the new Experience Zones, Guided Tours, an expanded MICE Show Asia, and a strong technology focus demonstrate an industry that is rapidly evolving while remaining centred on human needs.

Implications for Asia's Travel Sector

The expansion of ITB Asia 2026, particularly the significant growth of MICE Show Asia and the introduction of dedicated Experience Zones, shows a clear trend towards specialised and experiential travel within the Asia-Pacific region.

For Asian travel operators and destinations, this indicates a need to develop more niche products and services that cater to specific human-centred designs and group travel requirements.

The focus on artificial intelligence in conference discussions, highlighted by speakers such as Lovrenc Kessler and Brett Henry, suggests that technology integration will be crucial for competitive advantage in Asian markets.

Singapore's continued role as host reinforces its position as a central hub for regional and global travel trade, driving connections and knowledge exchange that directly influence product development and market strategies across Asia.
