Seven Agreements Formalised at MATTA Fair 2026

Malaysia Airlines has substantially expanded its tourism collaborations across the Asia-Pacific region, formalising seven new or renewed partnerships with various tourism boards at MATTA Fair 2026. These agreements, announced on the opening day of the fair, are designed to enhance connectivity and stimulate travel demand.

Bryan Foong, Chief Executive Officer of Airline Business for Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), stated that these collaborations reflect a shared commitment to inspiring travel and strengthening tourism ecosystems. The formalisation occurred during the inaugural Destination Parade: Asia Pacific’s Largest Tourism Destination Show, held as part of the fair.

New MoUs with Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, and Taiwan

Among the new initiatives is a one-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), marking Malaysia Airlines’ first strategic partnership with the Thai tourism body. This collaboration aims to promote Thailand as a preferred destination for Malaysian travellers and increase tourism exchange between the two countries.

Similar one-year MoUs were agreed with the Philippines Department of Tourism (PDOT) and the Tourism Taiwan Administration (TTA) to enhance destination awareness and stimulate travel demand from Malaysia. The Ministry of Tourism, Republic of Indonesia, also established a partnership to strengthen bilateral tourism cooperation and increase Indonesia’s appeal.

Expanded Partnerships with Singapore, Korea, and Australia

Building on previous successful campaigns, Malaysia Airlines and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) renewed and expanded their partnership through a three-year MoU and a one-year strategic agreement. This expanded programme includes joint marketing, destination promotion, and loyalty programme engagement to support continued travel demand between Malaysia and Singapore.

A new strategic partnership with the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) will promote South Korea to Malaysian travellers, following Malaysia Airlines’ recently announced service to Busan. Additionally, a one-year Partnership Marketing Agreement with Tourism Australia seeks to strengthen demand for Australia-bound travel from Malaysia.

The airline also maintains its long-standing collaborations with Tourism Malaysia and Tourism New Zealand through ongoing joint marketing efforts.

Implications for Travellers and Regional Industry

These deepened partnerships are expected to generate increased joint marketing and promotional activities for travellers in Malaysia and across the participating Asia-Pacific markets.

For consumers, this could translate into more diverse travel offerings and potentially more competitive pricing for destinations such as Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Singapore, South Korea, and Australia.

From an industry perspective, Malaysia Airlines' concentrated effort to drive passenger traffic directly benefits tour operators, hotels, and local businesses within these key Asian and Oceanic destinations.

The focus on specific market segments, such as promoting South Korea to Malaysian travellers following the introduction of a new Busan service, demonstrates targeted growth strategies for passenger volume and tourism revenue in the region.
