Nepal Tourism Board, Nepal Airlines Drive Japan Market Engagement
The Nepalese delegation, including nine private firms, showcased fully operational tourist hubs and launched new campaigns at Tourism Expo Japan 2026, held in Tokyo from September 24 to 27.

Nepal Delegation Engages Japanese Travel Sector
The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), in collaboration with Nepal Airlines Corporation and nine private travel and hospitality companies, participated in Tourism Expo Japan 2026 in Tokyo from September 24 to 27. The delegation utilised the international event to promote Nepal's ongoing tourism recovery efforts and to strengthen its connections within the Japanese travel market.
This engagement follows recent monsoon-related events in parts of the country, prompting a focus on reassuring international partners about the nation's readiness for visitors.
Key Destinations Confirmed Operational Amidst Monsoon Season
During the four-day expo, NTB officials provided updates to international travel buyers, tour operators, and media representatives regarding Nepal's tourism sector. The board confirmed that major tourism centres, including Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, and Lumbini, remain fully operational.
Furthermore, key trekking regions such as Everest, Annapurna, Langtang, and Manaslu continue to welcome visitors, according to the NTB. Business-to-business (B2B) meetings were also held, focusing on a range of tourism products including trekking, cultural tourism, spiritual travel, and wellness experiences.
Global Travel Event Hosts Nepal's New Campaigns
Tourism Expo Japan 2026, organised by the Japan Travel and Tourism Association, Japan Association of Travel Agents, and Japan National Tourism Organization, gathered approximately 1,420 tourism companies and organisations from 74 countries under the theme “The Changing Nature of Travel”.
Nepal's pavilion also served as a platform to promote the NTB's “Nepalcalling” campaign and the “Nepal Wellness Year 2026” initiative. These campaigns aim to attract more international visitors and enhance Nepal's image as a destination for adventure, culture, spirituality, and wellness tourism. The Embassy of Nepal in Tokyo supported the country's participation.
Strengthening Nepal's Appeal to Asian Markets
Nepal's proactive engagement in Tokyo demonstrates its commitment to rebuilding global tourism confidence, particularly within key Asian markets like Japan. By directly addressing concerns about monsoon impacts and showcasing operational destinations, the NTB aims to encourage new bookings and partnerships.
This outreach is crucial for the nation's travel sector, as it allows Japanese tour operators and travel agencies to develop and market new packages with current, accurate information. The focus on specific niches such as wellness and spiritual travel also helps diversify Nepal's offerings, potentially drawing a broader range of visitors from across Asia in the coming year.
