Philippines DOT, Newport World Resorts Sign MoU

The Philippines Department of Tourism (DOT) and Newport World Resorts formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 11 September 2026, establishing a strategic partnership to enhance the nation's entertainment tourism sector.

This collaboration focuses on developing a range of attractions, including live performances, cultural productions, and culinary experiences, alongside other leisure offerings. The primary objective, as stated by the DOT, is to encourage longer visitor stays, increase spending by both domestic and international travellers, and foster repeat visits to the Philippines. This initiative seeks to integrate entertainment as a core component of destination development across the country.

Roles and Campaign Integration

Under the terms of the agreement, the Philippines Department of Tourism will incorporate Newport World Resorts' diverse offerings into its national tourism campaigns, specifically "Love the Philippines" and "Discover More to Love".

The DOT will also actively support the promotion of original Filipino productions and facilitate connections between Newport World Resorts and key tourism stakeholders within the Philippines and in overseas markets. In return, Newport World Resorts is tasked with creating integrated packages that combine stays, dining, and entertainment, designed around experiential travel.

The resort will also develop visitor itineraries centred on Metro Manila and explore promotional rates and ticket offers to make national tourism campaigns readily bookable for travellers.

New Venues and Creative Economy Support

A significant development contributing to this enhanced entertainment landscape is the upcoming Westside Resort, which Newport World Resorts confirmed is scheduled to open later this year. This new property will feature four distinct theatre venues, expanding the capacity for live shows and cultural events.

DOT Secretary Maria Bernardita Angara-Mathay emphasised that entertainment has become a compelling factor for travellers choosing and revisiting destinations. She noted that the partnership aims to showcase Filipino talent and creativity to a wider audience, both local and international.

Secretary Angara-Mathay also highlighted the opportunity to support the country's creative economy, benefiting performers, production teams, and related industries, by integrating these experiences into broader tourism campaigns nationwide.

Implications for Travellers and Industry

This partnership signals a concerted effort to diversify the Philippines' tourism appeal beyond its natural attractions, offering a more robust cultural and entertainment proposition for visitors.

For travellers, this could translate into a wider array of bookable packages that combine accommodation, dining, and high-quality performances, particularly in Metro Manila, potentially increasing the value and duration of their trips. The focus on original Filipino productions also means a more authentic cultural engagement.

For the industry, the integration of a major private developer like Newport World Resorts into national campaigns could set a precedent for future public-private collaborations aimed at enhancing specific tourism segments, driving increased revenue and job creation within the creative and hospitality sectors.
