Singapore Tourism Board Launches Song Dynasty Cultural Campaign
The 2026 initiative, a collaboration with Henan Zhongyouxin International Travel Service and Millennium City Park, targets younger Chinese travellers with immersive performances.

Singapore Tourism Board's Cultural Initiative
The Singapore Tourism Board (STB), in partnership with Henan Zhongyouxin International Travel Service and Millennium City Park from Kaifeng, Henan province, launched a cultural tourism campaign in 2026. This cross-border initiative combines performances inspired by China's Song Dynasty (960–1279) with storytelling across Singapore.
The campaign specifically targets younger Chinese travellers, aiming to present Singapore's natural environment, multicultural heritage, and modern urban landscape through immersive experiences. Performers from Millennium City Park travelled to Singapore, dressed in Song-era costumes, to bring these historical narratives to life at various city-state locations.
Landmarks and Thematic Storytelling
Rather than highlighting individual tourist attractions, the campaign connects different areas of Singapore through a single travel story. Performances feature locations such as Gardens by the Bay, Kampong Glam, Chinatown, Haji Lane, and the Peranakan Museum.
These immersive short dramas present Singapore's character, with cultural districts showcasing its multicultural identity. Scenes at Gardens by the Bay and around Marina Bay Sands focus on the city's integration of urban development with green spaces.
This approach offers a comprehensive view of Singapore, weaving its diverse elements into a cohesive cultural narrative for visitors.
Henan's Contribution and Future Cooperation
Henan province's involvement in this project stems from its historical ties to Song Dynasty culture. Millennium City Park in Kaifeng has developed performances and immersive experiences rooted in this historical period and its aesthetics. This collaboration provides a new format for cultural tourism cooperation between Henan and Singapore.
It uses live performance and location-based storytelling to link historical cultural elements with contemporary travel experiences. This approach shows a workable strategy for blending history and modern tourism, appealing to historical interests while offering fresh perspectives.
Engaging Chinese Travellers
Toh Ling Hui, Area Director for Northern China at the Singapore Tourism Board, stated that Chinese travellers are increasingly seeking experiences that combine tourism with cultural and creative elements. The campaign reflects the tourism board's efforts to explore new methods of engaging Chinese travellers, particularly younger audiences.
This strategic focus aims to meet the evolving preferences within the Chinese outbound tourism market, moving beyond traditional sightseeing to offer deeper, more interactive cultural engagements.
Outlook for Cultural Tourism
This initiative by the Singapore Tourism Board and its Chinese partners demonstrates a growing trend in destination marketing: the use of immersive cultural narratives to attract specific traveller segments. For Asian destinations, such collaborations could drive increased visitor numbers by offering unique, themed itineraries that appeal to cultural curiosity.
Operators targeting the Chinese market, particularly those focused on younger demographics, may observe that combining historical themes with contemporary settings creates compelling travel products.
The success of this 2026 campaign will likely inform future cross-border cultural tourism partnerships across Asia, setting a precedent for how historical ties can be translated into modern travel appeal.
