Strategic Alliances to Expand Market Reach

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) signed separate Memorandums of Understanding with Indonesia-based TransNusa Airlines and Southeast Asian travel platform Traveloka. The formalisation occurred on 4 August 2026, at the Fairmont Jakarta.

Thailand’s Prime Minister, H.E. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, and H.E. Mr. Hashim Djojohadikusumo, Special Presidential Envoy for Climate and Energy, witnessed the signings. Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, Datuk Bernard Francis, TransNusa Airlines’ Aviation Group Chief Executive Officer, and Mr. Albert, Traveloka Co-founder, executed the agreements.

These partnerships seek to expand air links, strengthen digital marketing, and increase Indonesian arrivals across Thailand. They also support closer tourism and business cooperation within ASEAN.

Enhancing Air Connectivity with TransNusa

The agreement with TransNusa Airlines focuses on tourism promotion and travel product development. It aims to strengthen air links between Indonesia and Thailand. Planned activities support the “Feel All the Feelings – Visit Thailand, Feel Every Emotion” campaign. These include tourism fairs, promotional campaigns, and digital content creation.

Workshops and familiarisation trips will also feature. Efforts will specifically strengthen the Jakarta–Bangkok and Bali–Phuket routes. This collaboration shows TAT’s commitment to improving direct access for Indonesian travellers. It also supports the wider economy by distributing tourism benefits to communities.

Leveraging Digital Platforms with Traveloka

The partnership with Traveloka will utilise the platform’s extensive digital reach and distribution capabilities. It will also draw on market intelligence to promote various Thai destinations and tourism activities. This collaboration extends to supporting TAT’s Sustainable Tourism Goals. It will raise awareness of responsible travel practices among consumers.

The agreement includes sharing consumer insights and planning joint campaigns. Communicating relevant tourism policies, entry requirements, and safety measures forms another part of the initiative. These actions will adhere to appropriate data privacy and security safeguards. The digital focus aims to streamline travel planning for Indonesian visitors.

Visitor Targets and Market Insights

Indonesia represents an important ASEAN market for Thailand, supported by close cultural ties and convenient travel options. From 1 January to 31 July 2026, Thailand welcomed 376,337 Indonesian visitors. These travellers stayed for an average of six nights. Their primary interests include Thai cuisine, historical sites, and community-based tourism.

Wellness activities and beaches also rank highly. TAT aims to attract 890,000 Indonesian visitors during 2026. These partnerships align with TAT’s “Partnership 360” strategy. This combines air access, digital reach, and market insight to foster growth. They also support the global “Healing is the New Luxury” campaign, connecting travellers with meaningful activities.

Outlook for Thai Tourism and Regional Connectivity

These agreements connect improved air access with targeted digital promotion and market intelligence. This strategic alignment drives greater visitor flows and wider tourism benefits across Thailand. For travellers, this could translate into more direct flight options and streamlined booking processes to diverse Thai destinations.

The collaborations also enhance connectivity within ASEAN, fostering regional economic integration. The focus on sustainable tourism within the Traveloka partnership suggests a commitment to responsible growth. Industry stakeholders will observe how these initiatives impact visitor numbers and tourism infrastructure development throughout the year.
